Admission decision is a critical and important one. You should personally visit both the campuses preferably with parents, interact with faculty members, discuss all your doubts and then take your own decision.

In my personal opinion, even today JGLS is ahead of any other private law school in the country on all parameters except age and experience. It is just three year old. Five years down the line, I do not foresee such comparison even.

Yes sir. I have visited Symbiosis myself and plan to got to Jindal but I need an answer on the basis of reputation and market value, not faculty and infrastructure.

On national level, SLS Pune is more reputed as it is 30 year old law school. Internationally, JGLS is more reputed despite it is just 3 year old because it was set up with Harvard & Yale Law School Professors on board and has collaborations with Cornell, Michigan, Indiana, NYU, Brown, Columbia among others.

Market value is a relative term. A student’s aim should be to get highest quality education and exposure in terms of national and international internships, exchange programmes, moots, etc. Market value will follow automatically once you get that.

Symbiosis Law School is definitely better… Since you have already stated that reputation and market value are your prime considerations, you should definitely opt for SLS Pune (Not Noida). The faculty and placements are a lot better, the college has a strong alumni and the 5 year course they offer is a BBA.LLB (they also offer BA.LLB)which is perfect for corporates and banks. Also, it was ranked 4th in the India Today 2012 rankings for a reason.

I am also a law student and I was very fascinated with Jindal’s tie-ups with all these international universities but the last time I checked all these certifications were still pending. Infact putting up these affiliations on their website is very mis-leading. However, this was the case 3 years ago when I checked and things could have changed. Still Jindal is a very new school and I don’t think it’s worth risking 5 years of your graduation with.

Hands down..SLS Pune is much better. You sure don’t wana spend that kind of money on a new law school. Go to SLS, provided you have cleared SET. Although money is not an issue with you, use it wisely to get an LLM degree from reputed universities rather than falling for the tie up things which Jindal has.

If still confused, write CLAT next year and get into Top 3.

Hi I am a Jindal student. a few clarifications- none of the tie-ups advertised are fictional. Nothing on the site is misleading. What is misleading is random and arbitrary rankings by weekly magazines and I am sure that enough people have written enough about it here and on other legal news forums. As per your point about comparison with respect to market value and reputation, as you said, SLS has had 30% placements, inspite of being an older and reputed college. Why is that so? Well, if you take a look at the placements across the various colleges, they’ve been lower than usual because of the job market. Moreover, it depends on batch to batch- solely on the merit of students. No one can guarantee you a placement if you do not have credentials. It is for you to hone your talents ad skills to gain the credentials that firms seek. And I can tell you that Jindal will help you do that. So seriously, this idea and concept of comparison as per market value and reputation hold little or no meaning. Hands down the faculty and exposure you can receive here is top notch and worth every penny that I have paid. Hope you’ll think about this. Good luck

I have just one last doubt regarding Jindal:

Does the college give internships while students are studying or do you have to hunt for those yourself? I know, this too will be on merit but do the firms come to recruit people for internships or not?

And, how do you think the placements are?

Yes we have a Career Development and Placement Cell. With regard to internships, there are two sorts of people in the college- the first who have a lot of contacts in the legal fraternity and those who don’t. Students who have enough contacts or have friends with contacts try to get their internships on their own because they don’t want to depend o the CDPD. But then there are students like me who completely depend on CDPD which definitely allots you internships. Whoever applies to the CDPD gets an assured internship, but it depends on your CV and grades. CDPD tends to allot the best internships to people who meet the credentials requirement. So in a nutshell, you may choose to hunt for your own internships or choose to rely on the CDPD.

As for placements, right now only the LLM’s ad LLB’s have passed out, being around 20 in number. All the LLM’s have gotten good placements, and all LLB’s have had good job offers based on their choices and CV’s. But then again, for the 5 year course, placements are a different ball game altogether and with two more years to go for the first 5 year batch to graduate, I really can’t say/.

Also, the internship process is different from the placement process. In any college. Firms don’t come to the college, the Internship Division applies to the firms ad organizations. Also, in all law schools, you are expected to do Legal NGO or Trial Court internships in the first year since law firms don’t prefer students until they’re in their third year or so. There’s no point in going to a firm that early since you learn nothing and you have nothing to offer as well. its a tough choice but yes symbi is a 3 decade old college, and any college which is that much old , will have reputation, but on the other hand jindal is 5 -6 yrs old and still is being compared to sls.i have had talks with jindal students personally ,and yes they are very satisfied trust me.

I got into Jindal too. 97.45! i got in Symbi Pune as well and people i am confused as fuck! let me tell you im a south indian with absolutely no relatives in the north. so it’ll definitely be hard for me to adjust there. BUt that isn’t the main problem.

I dont want to be taking a gamble specially since i have symbi. I understand that the exposure at Jindu is pretty great. However, symbi’s rep alone is intimidating.

Also, the campus life. Does JGLS really not let you go out without prior permission from parents? Because there is no way my south indian parents are letting me go to delhi with a resonable academic excuse. Does it get really tiring and banal in the same campus day after day? That would probably depend on the individual.

I would definitely rate SLS, Pune as one of the top ten colleges in the country and coming from an alumni of the college who holds a good job record and who has made his mark in the profession, you can be rest assured that there is no confusion that graduates from Symbiosis law school are respected in the legal fraternity and profession. To study law, campus, facilities and modernities should not be the defining factor. If that was the defining factor then London School of Economics or for that matter Oxford or Cambridge would not have topped the list to come out as the best as these law schools do not have sprawling campuses. Its the heritage that counts and the alumni base. Symbiosis Law School has a distinguished alumni base in the Government base (IAS, Navy, Judicial system), in the bar and in law firms, corporates and consulting and where there is a hiring SLS, GLC, ILS apart from the National Law Schools are considered. SLS, Pune also has multiple tie-ups with Kings College, London, University of Sheffield, University of Cardiff and runs exchange programme (Erasmus Mundus) with multiple laws schools based out in the Europe. For those who wish to study in a sprawling campus, there is good news, SLS has shifted its campus from the Senapati Bapat Road campus and moved to an altogether new and independent campus in Vimannagar of 5 acres from this current year. This may not match the sprawling campus of National Law Schools or JGLS but trust me its sufficient as half of the time you will be busy in the library and reading room.

Among private law schools, Symbiosis is no where close to Jindal on any single parameter. Only point in favour of Symbiosis is that it is old and having larger alumni body. Wish Symbiosis management could have worked on getting some good faculty from all over the country. Symbiosis faculty and admin is so localised, every one coming from Pune, Kolhapur, Sholapur, Aurangabad or maximum Mumbai, they look like a local law college not like a national institution.

Comparing Symbiosis with Jindal is foolish. Jindal has undoubtedly the best faculty in the country. Jindal is as good as top 5 NLUs. Only thing negative about Jindal is its high fees. If you can afford or get good scholarship go for it.

Law aspirants MUST NOT rely on stupid rankings of India Today/Outlook/Week/etc.

Include NLUO Cuttack also which is preferred over any private law school.

I cannot fathom how people make such tall demands or concoct such assumptions when they haven’t even studied in the college. We had Mrs. Shashikala Gurpure as our Dean who is still acting Dean at the college, ex-NLSIU and former member of the Law Commission of India and hailing from Bangalore. Our Professor Emeritus is Sr. Advocate Ram Jethmalani, most of our professors have been people who practised at the Bar, like Adv. Milind C Hatekar who taught CPC and Adv. Mahesh Jethmalani. One of our professors, Miss Bindu Ronald hails from the south and is a fantastic professsor. The Country’s first cyber forensic cell was conceptualized and created by Cyber crime expert Mr. Rohan Nagpal in association with Government of Maharashtra. He also heads the Asian School of Cyber Laws (ASCL). Guys make an informed decision and research extensively about the college you want to join. When ranking Law Schools abroad and even Business Schools, alumni base becomes a defining factor. Also guys, do you want to go with views of people who are still a law aspirant or law students or with views of people who are established in the legal fraternity, the choice is yours. My friend, law in theory is very different from law in practice so no matter whatever law school you have graduated from be it national or private, you will need to learn the nuances of legal practice to survive in the real world, as in the real world, people of National law schools or private law schools are all adjudged as the same and analysed only on practical legal knowledge.

Any day a law aspirant must prefer an NLU over a private law school. I will again say that at least 12 NLUs including NLUO and NUALS could be safely preferred over Symbi. or any other private law college in India. I agree with some points of Mr. Arijit but gentleman, trust me, Symbi Pune could have been a much better place if its management has aspired it to make it a centre of excellence in legal education and not just another college or profit center of symbiosis society.

Well people while preparing are very much confused and by this time every student must have made their choices but for the later batches to come i want to comment on this. I stand to be corrected here that there were just three colleges that gave 100% placements this year which were NLSIU, NALSAR and JGLS. But the point is what importance does placement has? Again to be stand corrected some sources say NLU-D has given just 35% placement then this means it is a bad college? Students the placements is completely on individual basis and market value within India no doubt still Symbiosis has the most among private law colleges and there are our university pass outs which are heads of leading firms which come among top 3 of the country. Sorry i will not take the name of the person or the firm. Just in the first semester i got the idea that what people think of Symbiosis it is not so. We here spend a lot of time in library, not because anyone wants to but because we are forced to for clearing our papers. One benefit with the college is that it has no scene of year back, you non-cleared papers just get carried forward and you have to clear it in the next semester. Make a wise decision as money might not be a matter of giving a thought on but every penny is hard earned and so wise use is better.

Now for curiosity of some other people that why is Symbiosis Noida answering for Symbiosis Pune.The literal meaning of Symbiosis will answer this :)

JGLS does not have 100% placement. This is wrong information and I do not know where you got it from.
