My father in law is 65 years. He has a 1 Room Kitchen flat in Nashik which is rented out. THe rent agreement has expired on Nov30 2011. At present they(My in-laws) are staying in another flat which is partly owned by my mother in law.

My father in law sent a legal notice to the tenant asking him to vacate the premises. The reason stated in the notice was that they wanted to occupy the flat.

The tenant is not ready to vacate the flat.

When i read the information on the internet, i am scared to learn that the laws mostly favor the tenants. Can you please suggest how to go about this? DO you think that filing a police complaint will help? In case the tenant does not surrender the property, what are the options available with us? What are the legal charges in case we need to go to the court and what time frame are we looking at in this case?
