NLUJ or NUJS through NRI? Some help.
Hey. So I got into nujs through the nri quota and just realised that the fee structure is horrible. They’d only given semester fees in the brochures and not annual, so I forgot to double it. It adds up to around 20 lakhs for the 5 years. And NLUJ would cost around 5 lakhs totally. Would any of you guys say that the difference in quality between these two universities is worth paying the nri fee?
And also, if not, I would like to opt for Jodhpur which I will get through my general rank. The clat website says that I can choose if I want to be considered in the general or nri category. Quoting the site:
I am covered by more than one category? Which category should I mark in the application form?
A candidate can simultaneously apply under all the categories that are applicable to him/her. For instance a candidate can apply under both General and NRI/NRI Sponsored category.
Post the declaration of results he/she would be asked to irrevocably choose under which category he/she wants to be considered. Once this selection has been done, no further changes would be allowed.
I havent been asked till now. I hope I will have the chance to pick. :| A little help?

Go to Jodhpur with whatever category gets you there..
The difference is not worth paying 20 lakhs. You’d pay that and end up on a 2-acre campus with two tiles to live on.
If you manage a decent record in the coming 5 years.. Jodhpur will get you wherever you like..
NUJS has better faculty and NLUJ has a better campus.
As far as the job scene is concerned, this is how it works:
If you plan to be a bottom ranker, you are better off at NUJS. It is true that the bottom rankers of NUJS land up with better jobs (small law firms) than bottom rankers of NLUJ (LPOs). But that small law firm job won’t help you recover your 20 lakhs soon enough.
But if you are reasonably confident that you will make it to the top 60 of whichever class you are a part of, go to NLUJ because your chances there are no better or worse than NUJS.
20 lakhs and 5 lakhs is a huge difference. NUJS is a better college but not worth spending 15 lakhs more.
I have to agree with what everyone says. NUJS is a great place, but not worth paying the extra 15 lakhs. The top performers of both universities have almost equal opportunities. The two-tile-living-space is TRUE. I don’t see the point in paying more money for that. I have a couple of friends in NLU-J, and they say that it’s a great place. You have many more academic options to choose from over there. Perhaps travel would be a problem, since you’ll need to fly to Jaipur and then take a train to Jodhpur; and being in the desert, it WOULD get very hot. But, I think these are compromises you need to make for a better infrastructure. You can invest the money you’re saving for a higher degree abroad; as, trust me, those can get VERY expensive, and it’s not worth doing an LLM in India.
Also, if you’re a girl, the situation in the girl’s hostel is BAD. It’s better for you to avoid that and go for NLU-J.
The clat assholes are telling me I cant change it now. They’re like its all computerised so the picking your category thing didnt work out. :| wtf. This is what one guy told me when I called up some number. He seemed pretty stupid.

What are the documents required for nri sponsorship? is it possible if you do not own a passport?
please tell me also the same…
i am student of class 12th and i have my cousin who is ready to sponsor my fees from usa..
i want to know if there is some difference in the fees of general and nri sponsored..
and is that compulsary to have passport for being nri sponsored
CLAT people are essentially GIPS, to whom GNLU has outsourced application process. You are going to be a lawyer, eh? So start with this as your first negotiation. It is your right to change the application before the deadline for completing applications, OR to make a fresh application. Talk to GIPS first - explain that you are within your rights to demand a correction in your application - you’ve paid the God damned fees and it is not a “crime” to make a mistake. If that doesn’t work, talk to the Registrar of GNLU.
