Foreign Nationals for Bar exam, India
I’m a foreigner who have been studying in Indian school since 5th class.
I have passed my 12th CBSE board exam this year with an average of 88%.
Since I had a passion to study law since I was small,
I have applied in several NLUs through foreigner category
Although I was preparing for CLAT and AILET by studying in LST for the past 1 year,
I found out that foreigners are not allowed to sit for clat nor AILET exams(i guess from this year.)
Finally, I was selected in NLU Delhi, through Foreign reserved seats, I was shocked to find out that I was the only foreigner in that selected list. 9 other “foreigners” were all PIOs and NRIs.
I’m aware that PIOs and NRIs are allowed to sit for Bar exam of India, and I just found out that foreigners are not allowed to sit for the same exam.
Now, If that is the case, I will be spending 5.4 lakh rupees per year (which is alot) fees for NOTHING !
Please tell me I still have chances to practice law in India?
Please tell me that I won’t have to change my nationality to practice law in India.
Why do NLUs have foreign reserved seats if the law says that foreigners cannot practice law in India ?
Show me some hopes..
I really do want to continue living in India, and also take advantage of my nationality (maybe international lawyer)
please tell me what options would I have after graduating from NLU Delhi.

Check out before making a final decision
You will need to be an Indian citizen to practice law in India. In your country of origin Indian degree may not be recognised as a valid degree of law. Find out carefully before making a final decision.
BCI allows foreign citizens who settle in India long term and has degree from a reconized institution to practice in India.

I’m so unbelievably good, i’m just curious, where is this rule mentioned ??
coz i read lots of Bar council documents about foreigners sections and there wasnt anything like this mentioned.

Did you find the rule which says that foreign citizens settled for long tern and has a degree in law can be enrolled in the State Bar Council, go thru the All India Bar Exam and practice law in India ???
A law graduate can get into company as legal officer without the enrollment and license rite ??
