**NLIU below HNLU and GNLU only after much thought.NLIU general seats are 23.And rest are reserved.With such sorry small nos. to play with excellence and teamwork are hard to come by.HNLU and GNLU on the other hand also have state resv.But the batches being larger, cohesive genius is easily achievable.The mooting season is privy to this fact.

NUJS has the best placements. More than 45 students out of 85 are earning more than 12 lacs/annum! Awesome city in an awesome location with super-awesome faculty. Dynamic and adventurous students! It can’t get better!

NUJS is the first preference for me. Then NLSIU. Then NALSAR.

When it comes down to facts, NLS has been around the longest and still has a better brand recall.

It is also a fact that the deeper we dig into information available today, NALSAR / NUJS / NLU D have stepped up their game and the first two are truly competing for supremacy.

Still - I’ll take the chance and hope to get to NLS because it is surely the safest choice. NALSAR & NUJS may topple it, but NLS will definitely be a top school when I graduate.

I want to keep the option of working outside India open. As per LegallyIndia, 8 out of the 14 students who’ll be going abroad from all 3 of these this year are from NLS. NUJS and NALSAR have 3 each.

I’ve finally concluded on this after a week long discussion with many people including friends / family and friends in the legal fraternity. All of them had their own perspectives.

I want to keep my choices as open as possible.

(a) Foreign Firms

NLS is my pick for this one.

NUJS & NALSAR tie for 2nd place.

(b) Indian Firms & Cos

NUJS is way better here. Even better than NLS.

NALSAR follows.

NLSIU, NUJS and NALSAR are the best 3 colleges we have and we should be proud of them. I think all of them (now more than 12 year old each) are an established brand.

With unmatched faculty and rigorous yet innovative academic practices (3rd years are getting to choose 4 optional subjects), best recruitments and the coolest location; NUJS rules for me.

You can’ make NLSIU the 1st preference, just on basis of perception. Facts suggest that NUJS has taken a lead over NLS, though for sure it is not insurmountable.

Are you a student at one of the three or an aspirant? If you are an aspirant, what is your order of preference or if you are a student then are you from NUJS?

My point about NLS is - it may not have performed so well this year, but it still is the safest choice and my undisputed choice for 1st preference. When I graduate, even if NUJS and NALSAR continue to perform well and even if they take the ‘lead’ so to speak, NLS will be a brand name that people will recognize and still ‘a force to reckon with’.

Between NUJS & NALSAR, I was open to consideration for my 2nd preference.

I do agree with your point about all 3 being wonderful options. I don’t prescribe to the idea of ‘student quality’ being substantially different in any of the 3 on the basis of just a few more or less marks in a somewhat general entrance exam like CLAT.

Hopefully I will not need to rely on my 4th preference, but I’ve opted for NLU-J for that.

i guess RMLNLU is better than HNLU.

All three: NLSIU, NUJS and NALSAR are very very safe choices. As safe as your home, if not safer. They have had batch after batch of amazing placements. Batch after batch of students winning the top moots and being the best in India.

All three are now established institutions; and even a disaster can only shake them off their established positions only to some extent.

My preferences are these:

1. NLSIU (still, because of the reputation)

2. NUJS (the best faculty among NLUs, best placements along with NLSIU, fabulous ‘heart of the city’ location, great international moot records [1st since the last 2 years of MPL])

3. NALSAR (bad faculty and outside the city location are a big detriment. Also, as compared to NLSIU and NUJS, the placements were below par)

4. NLU Jodhpur

5. NLIU Bhopal

6. GNLU Gandhinagar

I’ll study elsewhere, if these are not grabbed by me…frankly speaking.

Anyway in spite of all drawbacks like bad infrastructure NLS Bangalore is still No.1, NUJS comes second as they have some of the best faculty almost all from top institutions like Oxford, Harvard, Columbia etc they had excellent placements too, NALSAR comes a distant third though they have excellent campus and infrastructure but the place is 30 kms away from the city and is in a very remote place, the faculty is absolutely horrible, all the achievements are solely because of students

Just curious…How many of you have visited NALSAR and RMLNLU personally and on what basis you are judging the infrastructure ?

I’ve personally been to the NLS and NUJS campuses and I’ve heard first hand accounts of the NALSAR campus. Now, infrastructure, i.e., buildings and on campus facilities, wise, NALSAR takes the cake, since it has a brilliant, spacious campus and great hostel facilities. NLS comes a close second, while NUJS is last. But, location wise, NALSAR is miles from civilization; about 70 km from the airport! (NOT exaggerating). NLS is relatively better; but here, NUJS leads. Salt Lake is an amazing location for students, and don’t forget, Calcutta is the CHEAPEST of the metros. That counts a lot when you’re on a student’s budget. And from personal experience, the location of a university is far more important than it’s infrastructure. Furthermore, NUJS is very flexible; run and managed by the students themselves; and the outperform their contemporaries. However, I still believe that NLS has a better brand name than NUJS. Therefore, my ranking would be NLS>NUJS>NALSAR. You’ve already read above that NUJS has the best faculty and great placements this year.

and if anyone’s curious, NLS is about 45 km from the airport, while NUJS is just about 10-12 km from the airport. Granted, the Hyd and Blr airports are far more superior than the Cal one, but the commute is the shortest.

I have visited both NALSAR and RMLNLU and can promise you (or you have a option to visits both sites and compare with the material available online) RMLNLU has the best infrastructure among all NLU’s. Its one of the best infrastructure of ASIA according to LawyersclubofIndia and Soli Sorabji (Check 217th 2009 Newsletter). Also it has a 3500 capacity Auditorium while NALSAR has 800 one.
