Rendezvous with Law
Hello Everyone!
It feels nice to be a part of Legally India! I hope that this sojourn of mine will be filled with joy, knowledge and useful experience! This is my first post in Legally India and as the title speaks for itself, I am here to share a few thoughts about my love affair with this thing called Law.
I joined the course which I am presently pursuing, B.B.A.,LL.B., amidst what can be called as a hostile environment. I call it so because right from the Principal of my Pre-University Science College, most of my so called ‘well wishers’ felt that I would ‘ruin my career’ if I studied Law! But how I am grateful to my dear parents who understood me when I said I could not possibly survive, let alone live, studying Science all my life and I wanted to study Law, whose idea I had fallen in love with!
And now, when I stand at this vantage point after two years, I proudly say to myself that it was the best ever gift I have ever given to myself in my life! I am loving every bit of studying law.
My Law School, the Karnataka State Law University’s Law School, Dharwad, is a flagship School affiliated to the Karnataka State Law University, a venture of the Government of Karnataka. It is the largest federal law university in India. And we are the first batch of our law school. Since we are the pioneer batch of our Law School, we did not have all the glitz and glamor of an ‘ideal college atmosphere’ during the first year. Many of my classmates were just not happy with the things as they were! But this year, we have our juniors; something is definitely better than nothing! The infrastructure is still not in place, but things have improved a lot since the inception, as they have to.
At the Law School, a majority of the students are those who have opted Law as their last resort; laymen consider the study of Law as the last ray of hope for the serial dunces! I have grown inured to surprised smiles and derogatory expressions from the people who thought it right for me to have joined Engineering or Medicine! I have got profligate advices and counselling sessions as to why Law is bad for me!
So far, so good. The more these people try convincing me that Law is not that good after all, deep down inside of me, I hear myself shouting out to them, how much my love has grown towards Law! My rendezvous with Law has been a very momentous one. The romance seems to be unending. May the tryst continue to illumine at least few of the indigent some day. May God give us the serenity to brave it all. May God be there for us, with us!
Amen.
