DU Law Fac entrance exam prep?
12 Dec 2009, 01:32
“I was just searching for DU Law Faculty groups so I could get in touch with students/ex-students for some first hand information.
If you have time, I was wondering if you could help provide some information. I’m currently in third year, studying English Hons, and I plan on sitting for the Law Fac exam next year. Since there aren’t any specific coaching classes for the DU law exam, I’m left to prepare for it on my own. I was hoping you could give me pointers on how to prepare- any resources, question banks, anything that would aid the process. It would be extremely helpful to get first hand information!”
Query from a reader - again, I’m out of my depth. Any ideas?

They have a program for CLAT. And will surely guide you about DU law colleges as well.
Cheers.
DU Law Fac’s entrance exam isn’t a big deal. Don’t waste any money on a coaching class. Just buy a cheap law entrance textbook / question bank and read it yourself. If you’re reasonably smart, you can manage without even that. The Law Fac application form will give you the layout of the paper and some sample questions— it didn’t have a logical/mathematical reasoning section when I took it. (Which is why coaching classes are a waste of time, and a lone textbook is good enough.)
If you’re desperate, a bunch of crash courses spring up around Law Fac near entrance time.
And, hint hint, the standard of the entrance exam should tell you something about the standard of the institution.
Please purchase UNIVERSAL’s Guie for DU Law Entrance Examination. It is a good book. Available with all the book sellers near the DU Law Faculty.
Keep a mock answer sheet containing cells numbered 1 to 200 or so and a blank space against each of it for giving your answer. (In fact one can get a number of such sheets prepared in EXCEL and keep handy).
Note the starting time. Take the test papers given in the Universal’s guide one by one. Note the answer against the question in the sheet mentioned above. IF YOU ARE NOT SURE ABOUT ANY ANSWER PLEASE LEAVE THE SAID QUESTION AND GO TO THE NEXT. DO NOT GUESS - IT WILL CARRY NEGATIVE MARKS.
After finishing the question paper - NOTE the finishing time.
Now see the Answer to the respective Test paper given at the fag end of the Guide. Verify your answer. For every right answer award 4 marks. For every negative answer deduct 1 mark. Initially even if your marks are very poor, do not panic. Persist with it. Over the time, you will master.
Make a tally. By this method, you will go on improving your tally. If your tally is consistently 325 and above, you will get sure success in the entrance exam and also admission.
LAST BUT NOT THE LEAST, wherever you are not sure about the answer, or where you made a mistake in answering, verify the answer sheet and try to catch up with the correct answer!
By this method, you will ensure that while your current GK fetches you the marks which you arrived at, you will also get to know the answers for the questions which you have left and the ones which you answered wrong.
THE ABOVE EXERCISE WILL ENSURE YOUR SUCCESS! BEST OF LUCK.
Point noted.
I’m going to assume you got through but passed on the Law Faculty admission, so out of plain curiosity, where did you get your degree from? Any other institutions you’d recommend for the 3-year LL.B.?
Since I forgot to mention it earlier, the above post is in response to Anonymouse.
Wrong assumption, LFEP. I did graduate from DU’s La Fekelty, and so can’t recommend any other place!
Give me an email address if you’re desperate for more insights.
Right, I stand corrected.
Not desperate, but definitely apprehensive about what to expect from the exam, but that’s sorted now. Would definitely like to know more about the course, etc. but is there a less public way to exchange addresses?

Happy NY!
I have an account on Legally India, so if you do as well, I could just message you here.
Not to be much of a pest, but I’m looking for information on the course, the teaching method, a little about class demographics and a bunch of other things.
Hi LFEP and Anonymouse - we have upgraded our social network so messaging and communicating with each other directly and privately should be a lot easier now.

can u share more details about du law…college infra, placements, faculty etc…
n about how to prepare for du law???
Delhi University(DU) is the best university for studying law in India as far as study programme is concerned. Unlike other law colleges, DU uses case study method to teach law.
It’s true that seats in DU are greater in number than other national law schools but only few are able to qualify for its law degree at the end of a three year bath. In first year a lot of students are admitted but till third year only a few of them stay because most of the students fail to qualify the semester exams of DU. It’s hard to pass the DU’s law degree exam.
DU’s alumni are more in litigation and judiciary than any other law college.
Other law schools like NLS and Nalsar spend crores in marketing and they are just media hyped.
I can challenge anybody on this fact that a DU law graduate with above 55 percent marks is 100 times better than a NLS and Nalsar school graduate as far as legal knowledge and aptitude is concerned. Many of the DU law graduates are alumni of famous colleges like St Stephen’s, Sri Ram college of commerce, Hindu college, where getting admission is tougher than cracking CLAT etc.
DU’s law faculty was established in 1924 and it’s study material was copied by all the national law schools.
I second Jazzz…
though being in the final year I am not that overzealous about it..but he does have a point there…
hey
did you clear the law exam? what was your rank?
@Jazz
you surely dont have any idea what the National Law Schools are about..case study method in India was introduced by NLS, and was taken up by other law schools only after that..and stop ranting dude coz you are not in one of the Nationals. Given a choice you would anyday prefer a National over DU..I mean, I agree DU has given us great lawyers but its certainly lagging behind the Nationals and whoever told you that Nationals spend “crores” in marketing must have surely been doped…Nationals get the best students and they have a tough curriculum, thats what makes them the best…keep ranting…
Is there any other law schools in delhi other than D.U which would provide a LL.B.,(3 years)?
None in Delhi.. NLU, Jamia, IP, Amity - all have only 5 year LL.B.
Worth exploring is Jindal Global Law School in Sonipat (within Delhi-NCR)..arguably having one of the finest 3 year LL.B. programme in India.
i am confused how to prepare for law entrance exam.
i have just 1 month to prepare for it
and unable to get any coaching classes for du law entrance near my home
please guide me
Dear Aki,
From where do you belong? If in Delhi, UILS is only and good option for classroom coaching. If outside Delhi, you can trust S.S. Guide to LL.B. written by Anand P. Mishra (myself) and available only in Law Faculty, North Campus of Delhi University or you can buy a Universal’s Guide to LL.B. from local book shop.
You must understand, DU LL.B. Entrance Test is now more a test of GK/GS (National, International, Legal GK) & Objective English. You can pick good books from the market and prepare on your own. Exam is in Mid-June. So, no need to worry. Adequate time available. Must go through The Hindu ‘Diary of Events 2011’.
All the best. Congratulations that you chose LAW!
Hi Mr.Anand
Is Universal’s guide enough for the DU entrance. What is the difficulty level of the exam? How much prep is required?
And is DU really the best in the country for 3 year LLB?
Hi KP,
To pass DU LL.B. Entrance, preparing with a good guidebook like S.S. or Universal helps.
Prep required to pass the exam varies from student to student. A student with good command over English Vocab and grammar and having excellent GK build-up with a good reasoning skills may not need any preparation or guidebook.
An average student needs at least a month of preparation to master objective english, GK, Reasoning & Legal Aptitude.
A below average student may need few months of good prep. else he will never pass the entrance.
DU Law Fac is among the best for 3 year LL.B. course alongwith GLC, ILS & BHU.
However the finest 3 year LL.B. programs could be IIT KGP’s LL.B. in IPR for BTech/MSc/BPharma/MBBS (technical grad/post-grads) & LL.B. at Jindal Global Law School which could match with the finest 5 year LL.B. courses offered at top National Law Schools in terms of curriculum, faculty, internships & placements, global exposure and opportunities of studying abroad!
Thank you for the information Anonymous.
Do you have any idea about enterance exam to IIT KGP entrance? Ther’s very little informarmation on their website
Good Evening everyone
Now that just four days are left for preparations, i has become quite hectic. So instead of seeking help in preparations for the exams, i would like to have assisstance in respect to the cutt off list. Can you also please guide me about the score one need to hit a RANK.

Sir i am doing B.A in english From one of the affltng clgs of Calcutta University..here it is too dificult to get 60 percnt marks in graduation espclly in english..even the topper frm kolkata in english gt 62 prcnt last year because the university does not provide good marks at all…I am very much intrstd in law..i want to to llb after my graduation…can u please suggest me in whch will be the better college for prsng 3 years llb cours?..?…and can i start preparng for the entrance exam frm now onwards?..because the way in whch the university is gving marks it is not possible for us to get admission in any reputd law clgs
In case of GLC mumbai the cutoff prcntage of arts in case of 3 years llb course stays around 70,80 prcnt every year…and it is more than a dream to aquire such prcntage in English Under Calcutta University.. :(
Mr. Anand Sir,
I am an Engineer and working as a senior executive in PSU.
I want to do LLB in evening classes with DU.
Wiil your book shall also be applicable for preparing for the same.
pl. reply as soon as possible.

hey..u can refer to A.P. bhardwajz book n universal guide also. I m preparing for law fac n seeing the pattern of last year, work more on G.K. and English. last year some 30 questions were of english and arnd 80 questns frm G.k. G.K. was more like G.S. (general studies) basic history , geography, and mostly indian polity. again , dont assume that the english section would be easy, improve ur vocab…
du law fac isnt easy nymore, like it used to be some 3-4 years back. prepare for atleast 2 to 3 months , studying atleast 2 hours daily. If you belong to general cat. u need to score atleast 300 marksin order to get in d evening bath. if you want to study in CLC (morning 1) u will have to score more den 360. i had given d exam dis year without preparing at ol as i was alwas told dat law fac is a cakewalk and i couldnt clear.. hope u prepare well n clear d exam
@Rajiv Gupta, thanks for writing to me. I am really happy to see so much discussion about DU Law Faculty and its entrance exam here. For any working professional in Delhi-NCR who genuinely wants to study law and even explore working as a lawyer or legal professional later, getting admission in Law Centre I (North Campus) or LC II (South campus)is the best option as they conduct classes during 6.15. to 9.15 PM every day. But, the student must be very committed and hardworking else s/he will never be able to qualify all 30 papers and earn the LL.B. degree of DU. Evening classes students attend the same 15 hours of classes per week which is done in the Campus Law Centre (CLC) - the only morning centre of the faculty. Attendance requirement of 2/3rd in each paper and overall remains same at all law centres. Examination and evaluation system is also same. Therefore, I wish you are truly committed to study law and give continuous 3 years or more time for your legal education.
SS Guide (written by me and available at north/south campus law bookshops only) can certainly be a great help but you must add it with latest Yearbook, Current Affairs of past one year and Objective English questions. Even to go through the over 1000 page guidebook properly, you need to study for more than month. I agree with the comment made above. Minimum one to two months of rigorous preparation should be done to qualify DU Entrance Test. Still, it is India’s largest law entrance exam for one single law faculty/university.
Anyone can write here or to me at anandpmishra (at) gmail (dot) com giving DU Law as heading for my little assistance/guidance I can provide.
All good wishes and congratulations for choosing law!
sir, do you think that c.s. and llb frm du can be handled together??
Many people have handled it in past..many might be doing now…My experience, at least 50 or more CS Final students are enrolled in CLC any year.
But, it is illegal as per DU Rules to pursue LLB and CS together.
I will not advise that one should go for this. Rather studying law well for 3 years and becoming a good lawyer or legal professional is always a better career/profession in my opinion.
All the best!
sir m in c.s. 2nd year, i cant leave c.s. and i know that i cannot earn much with just a c.s. degree. if i go for l.l.b along with it can i find a better job?? as u said dat it is illegal, will both d degrees b acknowledged or not when applying for a job??
Hi, to clear DU Llb entrance exam you should prepare
1.GK, current affairs, geography, major world events, UN and bodies of UN, inventions, famous authors and their books.
2. Reasoning- perfect it.
3. English (word power book is really helpful)- make it perfect.
4. Basic knowledge of legal maxims, law and Indian constitution. (Last year their was a question on UN charter)
To prepare well you can buy question paper of previous years which should be available in book shop situated in faculty of law in March or April. (or when you submit your entrance exam form)

i have to appear for law entrance exam in 2014.Can you guide me some books which i can study on regular basis?
Hello, If any one having info about the law entrance exam like how to clear the test, what would be the course material and what is the syllabus for the same, please mail at (piyush_kaushal02[at-the-rate-of]yahoo[dot]in
) thanks.
i m a final year bbs student who wants to get into the law fac for the 3 yr course.
what are the important aspects of GK that I am supposed to work on and will the Universal’s guide be enough for the complete prep of this entrance???
Hi, Preparation for DU’s entrance requires a bit of consistency and smart work. For GK section, be regular in reading newspaper. Universal’s entrance book is fairly good. Work a bit hard on Legal aptitude section.
I’m currently a student at Law Center II. Im studying while working in the private sector. I took the exam three years ago, and let me assure you that the Universal guide is MORE THAN SUFFICIENT. I studied for the entrance for ten days, and I came in 12th rank. Dont worry, the exam is as easy as cake. Study Universal guide carefully.
Any one could help me to find out which is the best coaching centre for DU LLB entrance 2013 preparation in Delhi… Seniors ,could you plz suggest one…
sir m frm kolkata…can u pls tell me some of the good colleges tht r offering 3 years LLB course??????????
Hi i am 2011 passout, in my opinion you did not require any preparation now days for law fac…it my sincere advice do law from any college near to your home and do as much as study you can…because even in du maximum students of DU pass their exam by just 2 week study of du kee( jain and singhal)…or about du case you can downlode it from du.ac.in…i am not criticizing anyone but now a days clc lost all of his glory…it’s famous faculty…now law faculty full of teacher who itself pass exam after studying dukey, they does not have any expert knowledge except raina sir and kamala madam more then 90 % of faculty are useless…even then you want to take admission in so called CLC and read only lucent for gk and some english and current affair and some legal reasoning(max 12 ques asked)
sir i have universal book for preparation maine uska geography science ganmes books sub larn kar liya ..i ma cs final student so by god grace legal maxima aata he hai baki I m preparing and legal reasoning is gud too…Is universal book and past year questionj paper is sufficient aur suggest me some more point so that i can break the entrance my exam due on 9 th june 2013 ..
Guys ive done all the mcq’s from universal and S.S. Ive also done my current affairs by reading the newspaper daily and writing important news and events in a register. Ive finished reading and re-reading the dairy of events 2012-2013.Is there anything else i should do?or is my prep enough to get me a seat(any seat) in the faculty of law DU?
your advice would be really appreciated.
I am a second year student from CLC …Cleared the exam last year …Whatever u have done is sufficient but a key part about cracking the exam is the number of questions you attempt . A 320+ score will surely get you through CLC …280 + for LC 1 and 250 + LC 2 …So just be careful about the number of questions you attempt .
All the Best !!!
hey!thanks man…was realy confused about how much more i needed to do…but i guess im sorted for now…fingers crossed for the 9th!! :D
hey anonymous,
paper went decently.i kept in mind what u said about the cut offs.turns out that im getting a score of around 330( as a minimum).what do you think are my chances of getting through?
(cause there’re some people who’re saying that the paper was damn simple and the cut offs will each go up by 50 marks.has that ever happened?is that possible?)
I have given the entrance on 9th June,2013. I am expecting approx. 300 marks. What are my chances ?
u can get into law fac.. for sure..but getng into clc myt b difficult
scored 266 last year but couldnt get admisn :/
yes.. d exam was very easy..expect d cut off to b higher den last year..in my opinion a score of 360 or more will b needed for clc
hey,but what about around 320-330…will i at least get LC1…?
yes, u should b getng lc 1 in my opinion
What is the expected cut off this year for general applicants?
RESULT TOMORROW!!!cut off expected around 325 for CLC, 300 for LC1 and 290 for LC2…info from office of DU…results have been tabulated…now the wait begins.BEST OF LUCK GUYS!
are you sure jaideep??
325 for clc ..many students were saying paper was damn easy and cutoff will be 360 above.
and what’s the timing?
after 12 is what the office guys told me…and yeah it seems that way but what i was told was that even in 2011 the paper was damn easy and all but students with 325-330 gt through to CLC…even if my source is wrong i have a feeling that 300 should land someone into north campus atleast…no?
I too think that score of 300 should get someone in lc 1..but considering the increase in applicants, can’t say anything..let’s see what happen ..result will be out very soon..
All the best :)
this apparently happens every year…there are always a couple of students who feel that the paper was damn easy, that theyre going to score above 360 or even 400…what happens after is a completely different story…they get questions wrong all over the paper and end up with a 350-330 score…last year the paper was considered damn easy too by some…cut off still went to 320 only…mustve happened in your year too right?people saying that the paper was damn easy and what not?…now when it comes to the number of applicants i dont know what the fculty will do…im clueless…25000 is too much…
hey anonymous… btw im scoring around 320-325 after checking the paper properly(each and every question from google and clatgyan) so tell me this, should i be scared?is there a chance i get nothing?not even LC2?
When is the result coming ?
Are you sure that the result will be out today itself ?
dunno man…vaise toh aaj it shudve come…turns out it hasnt yet…cant help it…office guys arent helping…how much are u scoring around drone?
Somewhere around 300
thats nice man…seems like ull be getting in FO SHO!:D
Dude,i don’t think so. Lets keep our fingers crossed. Btw when is the result coming ?
When will results be out ..any idea?
No idea
i might get around 365 marks in the entrance.. do u think ill make it to CLC???
i called up office ppl and they said result will either come by evening or monday :o
@ ^
Argghhh can’t they tell exact date.. tired of waiting ..i think it will be out on Monday only..
yaaa! :(( hey can u tell me if i will be able to get admission in CLC with 365 marks?? (general)
^
yeah most probably :)
does anyone have any clue about the expected cut off…for clc,lc1 and lc2…??the result toh will come for sure…but anyone on the expected cut off?
got 377 marks… :( is there any chance i can get thru clc??? what are the cut offs?
hey guys…got a 1200 rank…is there a chance for north campus?
Got 1239 rank. What are my chances
got 500 rank … can i get in CLC by any chance???? please reply!!!!!
I got 1239. What are my chances ? Please reply
Hi, I appeared for the DU LLB entrance. My rank is 1426in general category. Do I have any chance for fac II
hi! i think u r wrong about the numbers which students get in the entrance exam..bcoz 280 for lc-1 and 250 for lc-2 are not enough to get admission for everyone.i got 300 in 2013 but i did nt get admission in d.u.u can be right at ur place if u r talking about sc,st and obc but not about general caste.if u r from general category dn u need more dn 330 after doing tht u can get admission in d.u…
im currently a student of the faculty of law.studying in CLC .i cracked the entrance last year.contact me if u guys need any help.

sir i am confused which book best for law preparation and give me some trick iam passed law exam..
Why are you confused? Only two guide books used by DU LLB applicants. One is Universal and other is SS Guide written by Anand Mishra specially for DU Law Faculty. Go and get one. Also, too much reliance on any guidebook is bad. Solve past papers and use some good GK, Current Affairs magazines for preparation!
Please help me what are the most important topics for du llb 2014
only universal guide is enough for the prep? is it available in all cities as i hail from jaipur. thankyou
Have you chosen LaW as your career?

Sir I have scored 375 in LLB Entrance as per d answer key to entrance paper 2014 was recently uploaded would I be able to get law faulty as my centre
Kindly reply ASAP
Hey
You will get into LC1 or LC2 if not CLC. But can’t say as there are people with 370 in CLC (in 2013 batch). Well LC1 is better than CLC and LC2 in so many ways. Don’t worry you will get admission in Faculty of law. By the way the office said that there were approx 26000 applications this time. And people are mostly scoring in the 400-500 range and few crossing the 600 mark as well. There are 3 scrapped questions whose marks will be given , therefore the total stands to 700.
Cheers !
Is there any chances of getting admission in faculty clc or lc1..my expected score is 420 or 415..?
Yes.There are chances.
I hope you don’t mind but why law and why DU LLB ?
M i making a wrong choice…?
Hahaha ! No man .just asking you. If you want to make your career in the law field then this is the perfect choice.
Hahahah…dats wt i wz thinking but i thought asking or taking guidance is nt a bad thing…;)
Tell me one thing dat if ill score above 400 den can i get clc or lc1..?
According to last years cut off. You can get all three with 400+. But students have scored more this time i.e. in the 400-500 range therefore you may get clc but you will get lc1 and lc2. But it will be wise for you to take lc1 because clc has very bad timings i.e. from 8am to 3pm. You will be wasting a lot of time , nor could you do internships throughout the year nor could you get into a job. LC1 has timings from 11-3pm ,3-6,6,-9pm.LC2 has only 6-9pm classes. LC1 has better extra curricular and placement committees and all.
Thanks sir…:)
Sir..i seems u r very sound in the faculty affairs either ur a pass out or senior in faculty it was great to interact with you..sir may i knw your name please..?
Don’t call me sir.
I have given the exam this time.Lol. I know because I have over 10 friends across clc and lc1. And many clc friends are trying to migrate into lc1. And we are all IAS aspirants so the timings in LC1 helps. The problem with clc is the morning classes in this heat and there is around 1 hour gap between all the classes therefore loss of energy and time. It will feel like a drag and your motivation will take a hit and getting demotivated in this rat race is the worst thing to happen to anybody.
Oh its like dat…so wts your good name brother..?
Hahaha!Abhishek.
:)
Thanks…
lets see whether ill get the admission or nt…;)
We will both get in bro. Previous year (2013) rank according to marks.
Marks- Rank
543 - 1
470 - 34
460 - 55
400 - 344
350 - 998
300 - 2349
250 - 4333.
General seats in clc is 388. So there is hope that you could get into clc .
Lets hope dat we both meet over there…;)
:)
Arrey the final thing when is the expected date of result…? :P
Lol forget about it. It will come anytime before 25th june. It was written in the prospectus that result will come in two weeks but faculty is not sure about the date now.Just wait.
Hahahah…:P
Ohkk
Helo sir.. what is d minimum rank or scored required to get admission in campus law center
Any news abt the result..?
@anonymous
This time Campus law center and LC1 will have high cut off. There has been increase in the number of test takers and majority of the people are scoring above 400. 4 questions have been scrapped so total stands at 684 if you score 400 and above then you can consider yourself safe for getting into LC2. But for CLC minimum marks can be anywhere around 480 and 450 for lc1. And this time many sc,st,obc candidates scored above 500 too and few a whopping 650, so they are going to take the seats of the general candidates. This year can’t be compared with 2013.
Ahh..don’t tell me…is it like this…o0

Hi there. I am new to this forum. Was really overwhelmed seeing the response of people wanting to get into DU. I am a Company Secretary by profession and now want to go for the DU LLB course. I am working right now and i guess the 6-9 pm classes would be ideal for me. Regarding the books, i have ordered couple of books online but am not being able to find universal and ss guide as indicated in this forum. How to buy these books guys? Please help. And what is the best way to prepare for the reasoning section.
Thanks in advance.

Hi. Can you please walk me through how an engg student (no legal background, none whatsoever) prepare for IIT Kharagpur’s LLB in IPR entrance exam. I am very enthusiastic to enter the field. But not so good with Legal reasoning. Well I don’t even know what kind of questions are asked and how/where from one should prepare for the same. There is only so much that you can find on their website. Will be grateful for any kind of information on the subject
hello I want to clear delhi university law entrance exam and I am I dont know how to go about it which books to look upon as I am already doing cs I know it comprises of law but with graduation I dont get time to go through gk etc too I cannot afford to join any cocaching class as short of time is there
Just go with universal guide for clat and du llb,it is available online and cost around 700 but make sure you go through the whole book and read heartly single line solve all the mcq and dont leave single question given in book ,buy only latest edition ,there is 90%chances you would qualify the exam.
You should purchase universal’s guide for the du law entrance examination. This is the best book for you. I know it’s helpful for you.
