I’m a law aspirant.I would like to know about the best private law school in India.
And also:Apart from NLSIU, NALSAR AND NUJS,which other national law schools are considered to be good?

There’s National Law University, Delhi as well. It is doing extremely well for a young national law school and is at par with NLSIU, NALSAR and NUJS. You get to stay in the capital of India where the Supreme Court, Ministry of Law and other legal institutions are situated as well. This is an added bonus and very favourable to your educational experience.

You may consider HNLU over a lot of colleges as it is doing extremely well nowadays and has a brilliant alumni.

i kept hnlu at lower position because its inhabited problems related to faculty VCs and other resident problems which it has since its inception almost
Gandhinagar is better than patiala but has no infrastructure so will create problem
Patiala is young considering these but doing extremely well and is among the top 7 NLUs and do not consider private ones over NLUs

Please, RGNUL is not in the top 7…GNLU, HNLU and RMLNLU are way better than RGNUL. Moreover if you remember the recent article that came out regarding RGNUL spoke a lot of shit about it!!

Kindly excuse me when you say GNLU does not have infrastructure. Not much ado but kindly visit GNLU or ask anybody who has been there. Frankly speaking you can choose any of the following universities. Rest all depends upon you what you make of yourself when you are in:
NLSIU
NALSAR
NUJS
GNLU
NLU
NLIU
HNLU
(Not in order of ranking)
The new league of National Law universities consist of RGNUL, RMLNLU, CNLU, NLUD, NUALS
Avoid any private Law school. However Symbiosis is a place to have safe bet.

How is it that people are still presenting names like CNLU which is facing a hefty blow right now? A National Law School tag just doesn’t do anymore. It works great with the top 3, and can be extended to HNLU and NLU-J, but beyond that it is not justifiable.
Apart from the names the topic setter has mentioned I would suggest, School of Law, Christ University Bangalore, Amity Law School Noida, Jindal Sonipat, Symbiosis Pune, ILS and GLC Bombay! :)

Again I take u back to my post. CNLU is reeling under huge placement issues. There has been a constant cry out from that law School and several of the new law schools. Lets not u or me get into the ranking system because both of us would be inclined to place a NAtional Law School over certain other Law Schools. Its just a psychological tendency that can be attributed to the NLS tag. Thats why i’ve posted the link to LST’s rankings, which i believe correctly puts everything into perspective.

Well, I may be wrong regarding bottom rankings. Let me give you reasons behind these rankings.
NLSIU - u get the best alumni which you can ever get. Although, there is a huge cry that NALSAR and NUJS are doing equally well, but the culture and alumni and its reputation in the legal field makes it the Best Law School in the Country.
NALSAR - Although suffered a bit after the departure of Ranbir Singh, but has been performing extremely well in mootings, placements and has the second best base of alumni. Some students have got admission in Yale and Harvard, which is the best result ever in the history of any law college.
NUJS - Placements are at par with NLSIU and NALSAR, and has performed exceptionally well in last 2-3 years whether it be mooting, placements. And it is known for the entrepreneurs it produces. And is the third best in the alumni base. One gets the best faculty which one can get in any National Law School and it helps a lot.
( These three are considered to be the best places to study law in India)
NLU, Delhi - I dont have words to say, but it has done extremely well since its inception. The man who made NALSAR what it is, stays there which provide enough reason for this being a good place. Moreover, its performance in mooting is awesome. And, it is now in the eyes of Foreign Firms too. The program which would be conducted in NALSAR later this year is restricted to 4 Law colleges, and NLUD is one of them. And, being in Delhi provides a huge benefit.
NLU, Jodhpur - It has been considered at par with NLIU, Bhopal but somewhere it takes a lead when it comes to placement which makes it a better place than NLIU. Both Bhopal and Jodhpur cities are almost equivalent, so no benefit of the city to anyone of them.
GNLU, Gandhinagar - GNLU is a new college which has performing well and some of its students were shortlisted in the selection rounds of Rhodes Scholarship. Placements are better than HNLU presently. But again, after 50% reserved seats from last year, it might become equivalent to HNLU in coming years.
HNLU, Raipur - Facing some problems for last few years which affected its placements and reputation. But, has done well in Mooting.
RGNUL - RGNUL , RML and CNLU are almost equivalent, all of them starting at the same time. But presently, RGNUL has taken a huge lead in mooting.
RMLNLU - Dynamic Vice Chancellor who was former Director of NLIU and enhanced its reputation a lot. Has got quite good faculty from many places which includes NLS, NLUJ, NUJS etc. First batch was able to get placed in some good firms and companies even after State quota of UP.
CNLU - As informed by you, facing some problems, but every college faces some problems at some point of time.
NUALS - Haven’t heard anything about it.

@Lex Loci - State Quota certainly affects the performance of a college. I just see the name of a person who got 18 marks in CLAT and got admission, although he didnt join the college. Dont mind, but it certainly affects the performance that is why NLS is declining to grant state quota to Karnataka Students.

My only contention was against u placing law schools such as CNLU and RGNLU and NUALS der merely because they had the NLS tag.
Christ, Amity, Army, Symbiosis, ILS, GLC are all far superior than the colleges u have ranked :)
There is no doubt that the colleges u have ranked atop are the best currently.

but i partially agree with ur ranking but i still feel:
the two upcoming National Law university, that 1 in Orissa and the other in Ranchi are doing very well and have gained lot of name in last 2 years.though they are just the beginners in this field and the VC of this two university has more potential than others. dont ignore them!!:) happpy debating!!:)

whats your problem with state quota?
Someboyd with rank 8970 made it to NALSAR in the first list through domicile ST quota.
I got a rank between 150 and 200 in the general category and I didn’t.
Now,
I understand about people being almost equal for a 200-400 ranks around you.
But a guy who is at 9000 is surely not good enough.

State Quota i believe is never healthy. In fact personally I am against any form of reservation in 2011. Its become more of a safe guard for people rather than a motivator. I agree with the above view having faced the same issue.
It really makes very little sense to take in someone who ranks 9000 into a National Law University which ranks out at 200 for the GM category. Your defense might be that he would strive hard when he gets there, but it remains that I would have too!

NLU-Orissa is definitely making news feeds but it is yet to emerge out anywhere. I am yet to see it in a Mooting Circuit of Prominence or in a recognized Debating Championship. It is important that an emerging Law University makes itself felt in these arenas. NUSRL Ranchi However is very young. I frankly hadn’t heard of it until CLAT gave its announcement. So it would be tough to contest their doing yet. Maybe and hopefully in a few years.

NLU Orissa has been catching up in co-curricular fields. Inter alia, it won the best memo at NLUD Corp Law Moot 2011. Refer to http://www.nluo.ac.in/life/achievements/
Other than that, it has a good resident faculty, brilliant visiting professors and exceptional guest lectures. Enthusiastic and promising students and a most proactive and dynamic vice chancellor only add to its aspiring image.
