On a personal note SLCU is a gr8 college in terms of developement, and I can personally vouch for that.It has a gr8 campus, a 13 floor Law Buliding, a 4 floor Law Library(opening this March), and has had good placements for its first pass out batch this Jan. So on that note Christ is definitely gr8( also added the brand value and Money Christ associates itself with).
But when u need 2 make a choice between NLU-Delhi and SLCU, it would in 2011 be NLU-D. Maybe a few years later one would argue this, but today its NLU-D.
However thinking of it logically, the chances of grabbing the 32odd( unreserved) NLU-D seats are dismal and that being said, i would do CLAT, SET and Christ Entrance examinations.

The first batch would be passing out at the end of this week and placements started off on a rolling basis in the mid of January.
The placements are still under process and will continue so, till the mid of April. Top A-tier firm Trilegal was present for placement and has recruited 3 students for their usual pay package. Other firms included LKS..W&G..and several other B-Tier and C-tier firms ranging at pay packages between 8-3.5 lakhs.
Several Core and Non-Core industrial agents were present for placements with Wipro and Tata being big names in the same.
The 1st batch had 80 students in totality. Placement ratio will only be available at the end of the placement circuit. However, Placement ratio at law Schools makes no sense, as a lot of students would indulge in the field of litigation.

Now that the placement period has ended for the first batch, there is more incentive to join SLCU. It is definitely evolved tremendously. Considering the slim ratio of seats to possibility in NLU-Delhi, I suggest writing the CLAT examiniation and SLCU. WRiting NLU-Delhi would be a risky one as you would be forgoing Christ.

could you please elaborate on the good placemetns part of your post about christ ie how many got placed and how big the batch that passed out was which firms and companies hired students

NLU Delhi.
AnonymousLLB17 May 2011, 03:35
NLU D - because
a)Ranbir Singh ( of NALSAR fame) heads that place
b)in the capital and has access to all kinds of visiting fac from HC and SC
c)Lovely campus
d) Tie ups with various UNIVs overseas…
NLU D definitely.
Christ is only known in south india…
NLUD - is known across india and is after all a national law univ.

Is it only me or did other people writing CLAT also hear of Christ like after they were in a law school?
The college is apparently pretty big in South India, never heard of it from where I was.

I Don’t think Christ is not known beyond South India. Most of our students are from the NCR, North and Calcutta region.
But yes, at this point of time, NLU-Delhi is well ahead on the MPL front. The Campus tale would not be a big difference, because Christ has a huge campus, with a 13 floor Law Building. SLCU had a gr8 placement record for it’s first batch, something we have to wait for NLU-Delhi to show :)

NLUD isn’t competing with Christ as far as we’ve been told.
And I’m from Mumbai so perhaps it’s not too famous there.
Either way,
From what I hear now, it is a nice college.
Haven’t ever interacted with their students in moots, debates, dramas or something like that yet.
Perhaps we’ll meet them in some college fest.:)
AnonymousLLB18 May 2011, 08:00
We often overlook secondary things in choosing a college which in course of time matters much more than primary things. NLUD no doubt is better than Christ, but its much away from the city with 6.30 deadline and I can assure u one thing that u will never get time for urself. It will make u a good lawyer no doubt but a frustated and depressed human being too. In Christ u won’t get a very good life as u hav choosen law and that too in Bangalore but It will be a far better choice than NLUD. So, think and then decide what u want to be.
AnonymousLLB18 May 2011, 11:28
True.
NLUD students can be out of their campus only for 2 hours. From 4 to 6 in the evening!!!
That so sad and a depressing life to have especially for young students! You just can’t enjoy your lives.
Better be in Christ than NLUD. NLUD maybe better in moots and academics but Christ gives you the most cherished thing: the freedom to decide what terms you want to live with.

Stay home.
Go to the neighbourhood law college.
Live life at your own terms.
So what if other college are better at academics?
If you wanna do it, do it properly man.

The Brand value aspect was clearly highlighted in the successful placements Christ had. I saw the firms that recruited and seems to show a good brand value.
While NLU-Delhi seems to be doing well on the Mooting front, Moots don’t alone decide placements. Infact they have very little to do in placements and adds only value to the CV.
Going beyond placements, I’ve been to Christ recently and the new library is simple outstanding. Kudo’s to that achievement. 4 floors of simple brilliance! And the campus is something good too!
So, i’d say Christ over NLU-delhi simply because Christ has proved itself thru 5 years and placements, while NLU-delhi is yet to do the same. No doubts on Delhi though!
