sigh, this has been said before so very many times.

unless you have determination issues, the culture of a college, the state of its bathrooms etc are NOT relevant while picking one.

if you have the focus, you do not require to be surrounded by a hundred other people who study, you’ll do just fine. of course the right ambience helps, but just like every other human, you’ll find excuses to not work even in those circumstances. so this is not a smart criterion to judge if a college is wasting your time. smart criteria are:

1. placement records (very very important. do not go by the number of people the college says it has placed; ask an insider. colleges are famous for lying about their placement records, and i’m from a much-feted ‘N-school’, i know this.)

2. faculty (you will undoubtedly find that every law school has glowing names on its faculty; the key is to ignore everyone under ‘visiting faculty’ and check only for how good the regular faculty are. the visiting faculty thing is bullshit and of no use to anyone for obvious reasons.)

3. academic infrastructure (i.e. the library, access to databases like manupatra and westlaw, permanent campus!)

4. stability of acad environment (talk to insiders, find out if their faculty is roughly constant or keeps leaving, if the latter, find out why. find out what the current VC is like, most importantly check for political stability in college. you do not want to end up in a HNLU-like situation.)

that is all you need to check for.

what about hostels, ‘campus culture’, quality of bathrooms, bleached wood and conference halls, you might ask. that’s all very nice, but completely useless if you don’t have the above four.

i personally know some incredibly entrepreneurial and smart HNLU/RMLNLU students, but i also know - and they will agree - that in more academically conducive environments, they would have done better than they already are. you have time, so your aim should be to end up somewhere you will be safe, not a first-batch experiment or the victim of management politics.

to answer your question straight, symbi has (to my knowledge) fun campus life, smart alumni, great access to long-term internships, good faculty on record (no idea how many really teach), an utterly outdated course structure and bad placements (by older N-school standards). you need to make your choice.

Dont mind but you classic example of “Contemporary Skepticism”. You say its a great law school which lacks infrastructure and serious studies are self contradictory. If you have such a belief about “Symbiosis” please dont go for it. “People often believe in the things they know least about”. I am a ex-Symbian and I throughly refute your views and remember, it’s your attitude not your aptitude that determines your altitude.

For the record I am not believing anything just yet.

i would suggest that you should have your options open. Symbiosis and ILS are good enough. choose after results. good luck!

Definitely have your options open. CLAT surprises everyone as they year comes around. So, do apply for Symbiosis, though their is no doubt of the drop in standard at Symbi.

ILS Pune, lets their forms out at the very end. Almost close to when your 12th board marks are out as it depends on that. So don’t worry about ILS. Perfect, but Litigation oriented history and backdrop especially in times of placement.

Jindal is developing, and has amazing ties. Its new but the connections are concrete. Harvard, Stanford and Berkley tie ups are evident on paper, and my fellow peers at Jindal seem to be enjoying the experience. Only drawback is the age and money.

School of Law, Christ University is booming rite now. They have constructed a 13 storey Law Building, a 4 storey library, a beautifull Moot Court Room etc. The placements began for the first time, wit good results.

Amity is a serious challenger in a variety of Moots. Being from Christ, its always a Indo-Pak battle facing Amity and Symbi at Moots and their quality is evident. I’m unaware of the faculty and campus culture, but definitely a good collge from the word of mouth.

But do always remember, NLSIU is what your aiming for!!
