Is quite interesting, yes. From the article it seemed though as if everything was more just general political nice talk and expressions of wish rather than anything concrete, so judging by other NLS’ and how long they take to set up, I’d imagine it would be no earlier than 2012 and quite possibly a bit later.

Also, I mentioned this on Facebook yesterday, but do you have any other suggestions for a Maharashtra NLS?

And if it was a Maha-Goa NLS, why not put it in Goa? It’d be a superb location for a law school surely and would attract so many top professors and students!

What say? I think we should start a petition to the Maha-Goa BC to start NLS Goa.

But Kian, do you think Goa is conducive to studies? I mean people out there would be more busy partying than studying!and dont you think that NLU’s are becoming more of a business issues for the Government and Coaching centers…each one trying to promote one!!What is the point of having so many NLU’s???? I feel that there should be a minimum number of NLU’s so that the quality is concrete and unadulterated!

@kian—>though a new NLS would invariably be delightful,but what about GLC,,just a thought,,but why not,increase it’s funding & autonomy by granting it a National Law University status,,to top it,,it has proved it’s mettle over the time..plus,,it won’t have to work from ground zero,unlike other new NLU’s,to show concrete results…

@anonymous—>just because the location is synonymous with fun n frolic is no reason to presume that NLU-goa{if it happens} will be a haven for partying.for an example,consider BITS-Goa which has been a success from the word “go”..

Am with you completely on GLC - GLC has the potential to be as good or better than any new national law school with better funding and governance, really.

I guess the benefit that you describe - that it doesn’t have to work from ground zero - is a disadvantage though too. Reforming all the existing systems there might be impossible, with all the admin, governmental and other jobs, money, etc tied up in the current organisational structure.

And to be fair, GLC is doing well and will continue doing so, notwithstanding its problems. And it’s perhaps a slightly different audience it targets from just the NLSes too.

@ Anonymous - I think Goa would be very conducive to study! Although after 5 years in Goa it might be very very hard adjusting to life in corporate law/litigation in Delhi or Mumbai, arguably :)

NLU Mumbai would be a killer place to be for any student.

It would surpass most colleges just due to ‘Mumbai’.

GLC is any tym better thn national law schools…if there any law school is going to open…then it will not do anythng to maharashtra coz Government Law College (GLC) is anytym best thn NLUs

The idea of converting GLC into a National Law School seems perfect. A 150 Year old institution which has provided immensly to Bar and Bench can only double up upon the re-kindling into a NLS.

My personaly oppinion about setting up a NLS- Nagpur is,

“are we loosing out on exclusivity.”
