Hello, Legally Indians!
I have a question, and a comment, and was hoping that the community here would have something to say about it.
I've been reading TOI on their website lately, and the content of comments on some posts disturbs me greatly. As you know, comments are subject to moderation, following which one has the option to flag them as offensive. One must then provide reasons why the comment is offensive, and one option is to mark that the comment "incites hatred against a particular community".
Now, it is my suspicion that TOI is actually not doing a damned thing about such comments.
For instance, I was reading this article: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/opinions/6178374.cms, and if you look at the comments on this, they're shockingly offensive (one classic one reads: "Yes, I dare to call terrorism as Islamic barbaric acts and terrorists as Muslims").
now, I marked a lot of these comments as offensive a few weeks ago (this is an article from July 2010). Naturally, nothing has changed. I've also noticed that when I try to post comments, mentioning that the above comments are inciting hate, they are edited or simply not posted. I have atleast two friends who report the same thing.
Any thoughts? Any course of action? This is irresponsible, isn't it? They should take lessons from how well the Legally India forum is moderated.
