As a law firm lawyer, I would’nt recommend this article to a law student.

You seem to belong to a law firm where timings are from 10 to 10 and people don’t think outside their work.
Actually I belong to a law firm where the timings are 11 am to 7.30 pm.
And I have worked for for two law firms before this so I happen to know what bosses in law firms look for and this article definitely does not cover any of those points.

When I wrote this article I didn’t mean to tell “What law firms look for”. That you can find in the “15 CV tips” post I put on both LegallyIndia and Lawctopus.
The aim of this post ‘Bend Like the Willow’ is to tell students to stop taking internships as a matter of life and death, be flexible and enjoy the process.
Internships are very important, and I will be the last guy to deny that; but 4 internships in one year (thats what law students nowadays look at) are way too much. I hope you’ll agree with that.
They do a winter internships, two internships in the long summer break and try to squeeze an internship in the little two week holiday they might have. The aim of this article is to educate students against this trend.

Perhaps I should further elaborate on my point. Earlier when I was a student, I has regretted not doing internships in places like four weeks with the NHRC or judicial internships. But lets face it. Is all about getting a job.
What I did was doing a longtime internship in a single firm which gave me a PPO. My other friends who did pretty “well-balanced” internships like those mentioned in the article were left unemployed. Many of them are still doing doing odd jobs while I am in a Legal 500 law firm.
In the end of the day we have to be practical. Dear Anonymous, I’m sure that you that you have no clue what the real world is like out there but since you will have to find out the hard way.

@ Legal Poet. I totally agree that squeezing too many internships is a futile exercise.
@ Anonymous.”you all in law firms are losers”. I know thats what all the guys who dont make it say. It would be better if you take good advice on this forum and go ahead rather cry about lost opportunity.
