It is not very clear as to what you exactly want to do? First of all did you pursue your LLM for academic reasons like finally aiming to be a professor one day or to boost your CV for a better job prospect? If it is for a job prospect and you being in Delhi should not find it a big issue to land up a job in a law firm!! Get into a small law firm and then work your way up gradually and there so many of them in Delhi!! DO no loose heart, make a list of each and every law firm, call up the HR/partner/senior associates,drop your resume, request for an interview and I am sire with your academic background and internship exp you will get an opportunity. Then once you are in the profession, your work ex will take you places!!!

Hi!! Thanks for the advice, as mentioned I took up LLM for my career reasons, so that I can be seen as specialising in commercial law, intellectual property law to b precise. I tried mailing many firms in India, since am still in UK and none of them replied me back except one which says that thier intake for 2010 is full.

Now I dont know what to do next, I do not want to sit idle, its a bad time to look for a job..maybe but what do I do??

In addition to mailing them, do call them up too. Law firms do value an UK LLM, if you are doing it from one of the top institutes. Additionally if u want to work in India, LPO’s who are doing pretty well do look out for candidates with a UK or US LLM. Quislex, Hyderabad, then Pangea 3, Mumbai, SDD Global do look out for candidates with an international exposure. You can perhaps try in these places.

Am a law student will graduate in a couple of years. I’ve decided to do LLM in UK OR US.Am interested in International relations and Human rights. I intend to work in US OR UK atleast for few years after my LLM.Am a bit worried after reading your question. I guess i’ll have to reconsider my decision. Is it gonna be really difficult to find a suitable job after my LLM?? Did you knew about these difficulties before you decided to do your LLM?? Do i have to reconsider my decision on the foreign LLM?? plz help me..

Yes you do have to call them up. That is a mistake which I did as a law student. I just left and e-mail and hoped they would reply, well to be very honest now that I work in one, I know that attorneys have so much work, that looking into internships requests is the last thing on their mins. And people who call and pester them do end up bagging an internship. Leaving an e-mail wont do. Your mail will probably get lost in the hundreds of e-mails they receive each day!!! And do consider the LPO aspect as a matter of fact they do prefer LLM’s frm abroad.

I was not aware of the whole job scenarion. But it is pretty bad because of the recession. I would suggest if you can wait wait for a year and then come here.

can u name a few universities which are good given my area of interest(international relations,human rights,Arbitration…) can u tell me whatz the IELTS score required to get into some of the best universities there..i’ve learned its 7.5 to 9..is that true??
