AnonymousLLB 23 Jun 2010, 11:26

Kindly inform if ICFAI Dehradun for 5 years law students has hostel facility for girls. If not or not available, what are the other options of staying near the campus. Is Dehradun is safe for a girl to stay alone in a PG or hostel.

Climate is gr8. Happening street being Rajpur Road with all brands and restaurants. However, Dehradun is yet 2 have its own mall.

Life is hostel would be good provided your roomies are not nerds!Hostel is provided by law school and supervised by faculties. Wish you all the best.

THANKS MR STUDENT.

ANOTHER QUERY PL.

I WILL REACH DEHRADUN AROUND 10PM NIGHT FROM DELHI

AND MAY BE LATE IF TRAIN DELAYS.

THIS IS MY 1ST VISIT TO DEHRADUN.

TRANSPORT FROM STATION WILL BE AVAILABLE?

WILL IT BE SAFE AT THAT NIGHT FOR A NEWCOMER?

ICFAI WILL ARRANGE HOSTEL IN THE 1ST DAY OR I HAVE TP SPENT

SOME DAYS IN HOTELS?

AnonymousLLB 28 Jun 2010, 15:35

Allotment of hostel and room will take place on the day you register yourself with the law school. Thus, the day you reach, i suggest you stay in a hotel for a day or two and subsequently shift to the hostel. Transport will be available. There are ample hotels near the station. I would suggest you to come accompanied with some elder member of your family. Dehradun is a safe place, do not worry. However, the place being new to you, it will help if an elder member accompanies you.

Hello,

I being a resident of Dehradun for the past 17 thought that maybe i could help you out. Well, Dehradun is a really safe place to stay. This is more striking when somebody comes from cities like Delhi or Bombay. Its really small. Barely takes 20 mins on a scooter to cross the entire city. Its climate varies from intense heat in the summers(touches 40 degrees and the sun is scorching) to chilling winters(almost touches 0 degrees on some december or january nights). I personally find Dehradun most charming during the monsoons and the winters. Summers are sometimes to hard for some to bear( Mussoorie is a 2 hour drive from the city, so escape from the heat is always at hand). For anyone moving here, an umbrella or a raincoat is a must. The Rains, when start are almost unstoppable(no problems of flooding here, as it is a valley and water drains amazingly fast). And it rains almost every evening during the monsoons. So be adequately prepared. :)

The main market is on the Rajpur Road, but to the horror of some, many international brands are yet to open in Dehradun. KFC, Subway etc etc being the most awaited. As there are no malls, there are no multi-plexes. Although one is nearing completion, but you can never know when will it be operational.

Overall Dehradun is a very pretty place to spend five years of your life in. It has a bit of a rustic charm, which you’ll find missing elsewhere. The speed of life is slow. Night descends early upon the town. Some people love it, but some don’t.

Any further questions, do contact me. I’ll try my best to answer quickly.

PS: For anyone concerned about safety here, i think you can relax. Crimes do occur but not very frequently. Life for girls is relatively safe here. People have on open and broad outlook towards life. And from my own personal experience, I have found people to be accommodating.

Thanks for all those informations.

Also please inform about

1) Frequency of Volvo bus service between Dehradun to Delhi.

Any bus goes to New delhi station or airport directly?

2) Advise about some good hotels in Dehradun

3) Can I get SIM card of Dehradun with the college ID

only?

Good question about the bus service to Dehradun. Well, you have to understand this is an immensely busy time of the year so getting an AC bus is a challenge.

Volvo buses used to run, but went into losses, so were discontinued.

Buses for Dehradun are available at Kashmiri Gate ISBT in Delhi(its around 15 kms from the Indira Gandhi Airport so get a prepaid taxi). Please get a prepaid taxi, else you will be totally ripped off. He should ordinarily charge around 250 .There is a metro station adjacent to it, so no worries about getting there if you chose the Metro way.

But the main worry starts after getting off at Kashmiri Gate. If you dont mind the 8 hour journey in an ordinary or an High Tech bus, then there’s no problem as the frequency of buses allows easy availability of seats. AC buses are very limited, so getting a ticket is a arduous task. Try your luck, but don’t be hell bent on an AC bus would be my advice.

There are loads of buses which leave for Dehradun from there are around 9PM. So be there at 8PM definitely.

I really have no idea about hostel facilities near ICFAI as i live quite far off from there. You can inquire about this at the office itself. You won’t be the only person who would be in this dilemma.

About SIM cards:

SIM cards business here is largely unclassified. Things like ‘setting’ and ‘jugaad’ works at almost all mobile shops, pretty much like the rest of India. I believe you would have to try your luck with getting a SIM with a college ID. Try many shops, maybe one will relent. I again believe your seniors at college will be able to help you with this.

@ the one who started the thread

how come u got admission at icfai when the test took place today itself or did u go to dehradun to give the test

AnonymousLLB 5 Jul 2010, 10:46

For your kind information, Icfai’s admission was based on LSAT OR CLAT OR ILAT result. LSAT and CLAT results were published much before. Only ILAT held on 4th. Again ILAT is mainly for scholarship.

Hello everyone,

I will be new to Dehradun and I will be attending ICFAI law school dehradun. And, I am desperately in need of some information on GIRLS ONLY HOSTELS that is in or around the campus. I would really appreciate it, if any of you guys could throw in some information on girls only hostels and its security system and rules and regulations of the hostels. Also, I am seeking for a room that I can have by myself. So, if you know of any such hostel and are able to provide more information on it, then I would be ever-so-grateful of you.

Lovely

since this ICFAI university has opened the students have spoiled near by atmosphere of our surrounding the students in university are creating nuesense on roads disturbing neibours by listening loud music late nights they are not students they are monsters they are not here for studies they are here for disturbing our peaceful surroundnig . they are out it does not mean they should disturb others. the girls are shameless they are shameless because they know they are out their is no one to check them. if dheradun is a peaceful city and citizens respects them it does not mean you should spoil peace of this city. it is educational hub so try to get educatoin and behave like a educated person.
