Some questions
Hi everyone, this forum is really helpful and I’m learning a lot. I’m in Class 12 now and planning to write CLAT but I have some questions which I’m hoping can be answered here.
1. My real interest is to work as an advocate, not working for corporate law firms. Is this a smart idea? Am I being dreamy-eyed or does it take a really long time to build up a career as an advocate (How long does it take and is the pay peanuts at first? How long does it take before you can earn money comparable to what people at big law firms are earning??)
2. Technical question: Take the case of an LLB graduate who decides to pursue a master’s in something completely non-law related, say MA Economics for example. Can this individual then admit himself to the Bar to practise law subsequently? Will it be difficult for this individual to find any openings in law firms??

sorry i can’t say anything on your 2nd ques. but about the 1st one well, its a very noble thing that you actually want to go for advocacy as most law grads. are totally allured by the quick money they make through law firms & corporate law…
initially you’ll have to start with working under an established advocate..its very crucial whom you choose as your mentor as that will make or break your career…this will go on for around 5 years atleast so that you get hands-on experience and all that…these years will be most crucial…you have to have a lot of patience & determination as these are trying times…& the salary ranges anything from 8-15 thousand p.m…but once you are out there in THE LEAGUE you charge anyting between 1 lac-3 lac per appearance and in one day you might have an average of 7-8 appearances ..now thats something!!!!! go for it,, best of luck
This is the rosy side. If you can take risk in life go for it. I have seen quite a lot advocates without any place to sit in court. You can visit different court around your locality and see by yourself and decide.
Earning a lac per appearance or sitting on the benches??? What are some of the reasons why advocates fail or become successful? Persuasive speaking ability is very important I guess, but is a lot if it dependent on luck, oversupply …??
