hi… i am a student of des (just finished my first yr of the 5 yr course) and here is the low-down of the college

its a relatively new college so u cant really rely on the results of the past completely…

ur subjects for the first term are history => the teacher we had was awesome… she was new at teaching the subject but went out of her way to make the subject matter understandable…and answer our doubts…she gave us notes and all…

eco=> personally i found eco a lil tough… the portion was huge and we had to rush through it a bit how ever the teacher was really qualified and used to give us important questions at the end of the chapters and stuff which he was more than happy to correct and go through with u !!!

English => u have English for both terms there were a few teething problems there but in the end the college went out of its way to make help us out…

pol=> our pol teacher was very well versed with the subject… don know if he will still be there tho… i heard a rumor that he might be going to the us

socio=> she is one of the most fun teachers u will ever meet

she does not dictate notes or any thing but will discuss everything and is very student friendly

thats the deal with the teachers … i have heard good things bout the other teachers as well but don know them as yet so not gonna comment

however i would like to make a special mention bout prof deshmukh…he used to teach in ils and he is supposed to be a kickass teacher…my dad was in hospital during my exams and he went out of his way to make sure i was calm and ok while writing my papers…props to him :)

the college does have a placement portal so don need to worry bout that…+most kids intern with lawyers any way from like 2\3yr (not through the college)

u might not wanna practice law in courts and stuff but i suggest u familiarize urself with the system any way

as far as the crowd is concerned…

the seniors are friendly…so don need to worry bout that

i am from Bombay… so i found it a lil difficult to adjust to the slightly more conservative mindset of pune…but u will get used to it sooner or later… word of advice dont try to fight it… try to accept it

another thing that took me by surprise was that u have u wear black pants and a white shirt to college every Saturday…

btw were are u from…??the cut off for kids out of Maharashtra is higher than that for Maharashtra

try amity as well they have their own exam so its ok if u missed the clats

if ur not from Maharashtra u might find the whole language thing an issue… u wont come across that in college but in the city mostly every one speaks Marathi… (ppl spk eng and Hindi as well don get me wrong its just that 8 out of 10 times Marathi will be the language that comes out first )

last bit (i promise)… if ur moving to pune from a different city… DECIDE QUICK CAUSE FINDING ACCOMMODATION CAN BE A LIL TOUGH

hope i was of some help!!!!

if u have any questions post back… and ill try to answer

cheers

Vch college in Dehradun??ICFAI OR UPES OR Some other law school.

Zenia 18 Jun 2010, 11:51

honestly… i have no clue…

AnonymousLLB 18 Jun 2010, 16:32

your post did not really solve the chaps problems or answered his queries. he primarily had 2 questions in his confusing post.

1. Hows DES if he has to join something like a Law firm/LPo (since he does not want to litigate im assuming thats what he wants to do)

I also know most of the students from DES ultimately end up in LPO’s.

2. Does DES have a placements cell and how are the placements. Assuming he doesn’t want to practice in courts how would DES or the placement committee of DES help him.

He did not ask about subjects and whether he wants rooms. Please clarify the same I need to know that too.

AnonymousLLB 15 Jul 2010, 10:45

@ Abhi 9

Hi Abhi. You seem pretty disappointed. Well look, Make one thing very clear,no matter which college you join, If you have passion to make your career in Law..you can still have a bright career even if you are not from not-so-good college.

Students these days create much buzz about NLU, and other top-rated law colleges and University …that there college have excellence in EVERYTHING-Placement,faculty,campus-Infrastucture,Exposure ..blah blah blah…

I Don’t say they claim false, But Can no-one can give 100% Excellence to student. Because Excellence comes from Within. And Always aim for excellence not just placement.

Placement are job/workplace where we land up depending upon factors like excellence, etc.

External Factor are just catalyst. Now you have to decide whether you’re going to let catalyst enhance your skill or bring you down.

You said you got 83% in Science stream, Which is NOT BAD AT ALL. I Believe you are pretty intelligent and still can make your own way.

Now Since you are already enrolled in above mentioned College, Warm up. Get yourself busy with excellence academic record. Go for moot competition, or debate competition. Take Internship whenever possible. This will have good impact on your CV.

Do everything that other people do at law school, but in your own way.Ask for guidance if you need.DO research and submit it to assigned authority. Try to improve yourself everytime. Read and write blogs. Get updated with Current Affair.

And I am sure you will come up with flying colours. And don’t lose heart, because even If you are in not-so-good college in in your Undergrad..you can ALWAYS go for BEST LAW SCHOOLS while you Postgrad. Options and opportunities are WIDE Available. WE are surrounded by them. Just recognise them, grab them and make the most use of them.

My Reply is prolix but I hope it will help..as I have been on the same wavelength where you are right now.

BEST WISHES

* Even if you ARE from not so good college

AnonymousLLB 16 Oct 2010, 20:23

DES Law college is no doubt, a very good college but then talking about if good college matters or not,yes it does!!

national law school products are always given preference so if in case you are not from national law schools, then you have to fight in such a way that you be at same par with them..else in corporate sector, its difficult to get in..

AnonymousLLB 23 Apr 2011, 06:52

plz for sake of ur life dont come over here

try symbiosis or glc mumbai or banglore university

no firms comes to des so plz avoid it as it is simply des and not fergusson des

AnonymousLLB 7 Jun 2012, 08:33

DES Law College has still not evolved as a law college. I was a Symbiosis Pune student and had friends in DES who very not very kicked up about their colg. The college has got nothing and if I am not mistaken, no placements at all and the future does not look very bright. Write CLAT again if you can but sincere advice is that you should not go for tier-4 college.

AnonymousLLB 7 Jun 2012, 11:26

dear shubangi i have studied at DES law college and this yr ppl hav been placed in Mahindra tech and other companies and the college is growing fast…i gues u should apply

AnonymousLLB 7 Jun 2012, 11:29

PR - i dunno about your friends …FYI its not a tier 4 college…plz correct your facts before writing on a public domain..

AnonymousLLB 7 Jun 2012, 12:35

Dear A,

At the outset, I did not mean anything derogatory about your college, I just provided a clear picture. And as I mentioned in my last post, “if I am not mistaken” about the placements and you did correct me, thank you.

Overall, I am certain in my knowledge that the number of placements would be very low and the loss is entirely of the students. Could you please bother to give us the number as to how many companies/firms visited your campus, if at all?

Tier 4 ( in my personal opinion) coz NLSIU, NALSAR and NUJS form tier 1. NLUJ, NLIU, GNLU for the second tier. GLC, ILS, Symbi, DU form the third tier and may be they are at par with second tier colleges. And well after these colleges you may add whatsoever college, making it tier 4.

P.S. I have not added Amity, HNLU or other new NLUs coz I really don’t know much about them but I certainly know a bit about DES and it’s position against the colleges mentioned herein.

AnonymousLLB 8 Jun 2012, 08:20

U r absolutely rite ABHI9…joining DES is da biggest mistake of ny law student who’s tryin 2 build up a career in law…DES has got very bad repute in da city ..nobody even locals r not aware of da colg’s name DES , its only dey know is dat the fergusson colg vich is nowhere related to DES Law Colg- Fergusson is just managed by DES …n rest placements r concerned - Its really in a bad situation, not bad but really very very bad ..not even a single LPO comes dere leave bout the companies n law firms…n yes I have also heard about some DEESHA MA’AM - head of placement cell…-> heard she is pathetic, n only worries about her hair style n does nuthing in colg , n gets irritated on askin bout the placements n last yr 2011 I even heard dat they duped colg student’s money in da name of placement but when not a single student was placed as no body visited colg, colg had to return money after a great protest by students on issue of money—wat kinda an idiot colg it is rather I’ll say DEESHA MA’AM..n d gal which has got into Mahindra tech has got through her jack:which totally out of campus…Its really hell out dere in DES LAW COLG ..I am from ILS LAW COLG n come over and see placement cell and the placement statistics …Every top law firm, company or Lpo comes dere picks up handful of students every yr…last yr in 2011 the highest package vich went to a gal was 12 lacs in Amarchand..so dis how it is …plz do d survey b4 joining ny of d colg for ur n onlu ur’s betterment..

AnonymousLLB 8 Jun 2012, 09:51

I completely agree “DES Law College Not A Good College To Join.” As I am resident of Pune itself & last year in 2011, I decided to study law so did some research on the colleges of Pune & Mumbai though I got admission in GLC,Mumbai. After doing my research I came to know that the good colleges in both the cities are very few in number rather I’ll say only 4-5 which are (GLC-Mum, KC Law College-Mum, ILS-Pune, Symbiosis-Pune Or University Faculty of Mumbai and Pune.)

And now specifically “DES Law College” very shocking results - Has a Dull Faculty, Lacks Basic Amenities “I was shocked to see that they were not even having their own Auditorium rather they were using Fergusson College’s Audi & the most shocking of all was that there is No College CANTEEN, some Funny Aunty comes with food to sell items in the reception area of the college- HILARIOUS”, Atrocious Student Crowd, Poor Quality Infrastructure, Awful Reputation in Pune, Dissatisfactory or I’ll prefer the word “SICK PLACEMENT CELL-Not a single student in 2011 was placed reason not being that the student was not pickedUP, reason being “Not a single Company/Law firm visited this Dumb college” & sum 2-3 students were placed out of campus through their sources”. Out stationed students easily get duped in the name of faulty NRI/Mgmt. quota Or get admission through back door entry in General quota though they advertise 85% Cut-Off. Student Attendance system is very poor in the college.

I don’t understand how did BAR COUNCIL OF INDIA approved this college to continue their tag as “LAW COLLEGE” since its inception. This college lacks each and every thing which a good law college requires, Please its a request to all the students who are aspiring to enter the profession of Law, try to do research on your own before applying to any of the law colleges otherwise you will be tapped by these kind of sick colleges.

Please try to AVOID these kind of ROTTEN MONEY MAKING colleges as there are number of colleges which are running in the cities of Mumbai and Pune, else decision is entirely yours.

AnonymousLLB 8 Jun 2012, 20:10

Guys dis shitty DES Law Coll is not even in 4 tier ..How da fuck can nybody consider to put dis shitty DES Law Coll into 4th Tier list !!!

For everybody’s kind info “Fergusson College” is a total different college which is BEST among Science/Arts in the whole of the country. This Fergusson College is managed by DES society and this DES society opened its so called shitty DES Law college in 2004.Even there chindi DES Law Coll website states the history about Fergusson College or its society of which god knows how it makes relevant with its DES Law College.

Just to fool around students DES LAW COLLEGE is always called by the name as Fergusson Law College or Fergusson DES Law College which is done intentionally to dupe money and to make a BIG MORON of students.

STUDENTS BEWARE OF SHIT CALLED DES LAW COLLEGE.

DES Law College,Pune MURDABAD !

THE BAR COUNCIL OF INDIA, PLEASE CONSIDER THIS AS A PLEA FROM STUDENTS OF THIS COLLEGE TO “CANCEL COLLEGE’S LICENSE TO CONTINUE AS A LAW COLLEGE.” IT HAS RUINED NUMBER OF LAW STUDENTS AND IS STILL IN PRACTICE TO DO SAME.

SO FOR THE SOCIAL WELFARE OF THE SOCIETY AND IN THE INTEREST OF THE FUTURE OF LAW STUDENTS IN THE COUNTRY PLZ PLZ PLZ SHUT DOWN THIS FUCKING DES LAW COLLEGE,PUNE.

AnonymousLLB 11 Jun 2012, 20:12

u should not be talking like this on a public forum. It’s still your college.

AnonymousLLB 13 Jun 2012, 18:49

To “SAD”

Is it not good to tell a truth in the public forum where a guy is worry about his future to join a college, where he is a stranger to the the city and its college’s whereabouts.. is it not my moral duty to tell this guy about the college’s reputation where he’ll be regretting later at a stage from where he can’t turn back to correct his mistake, is it not good to publicize in a public forum where a college is duping money in the name of fake name or in the name nri or mgmt quota, Or is it good to tell this guy who’s just entering into a professional course to join any fucking college where at later in life when he’ll move back and look at his choice he made just because a fucking moron lied him just on the simple reason dat it was a pubic forum..SAD its really SAD to CU makin such a SAD comment..

I was in sinhgad law college and i felt it was pathetic.. no regular lectures teachers used to give dandi and not come for lectures… teaching subject was like a sleepy lullaby.. i wanted to get good marks and achieve but i didn’t feel sinhgad was the place for me… i heard des is good.. it has a good atmosphere and teaching is good.. i heard it also excels in extra curricular like sports and cultural activities…

My questions are as follows:

1.should i join des or no?? Cus some people saying its good and some say its bad.. i dont wanna waste my energy transferring from sinhgad to find im in another place like it…

2.how is the crowd there? i like being in a class where there are alot of students rather than a couple few…

3.how are the teaching and non-teaching staff? are the cooperative and ready to help or arrogant and make yu run around when yu need their help?

4.how is the ambience of the college?

5.and any places recomended nearby that i can lodge at.. like a pg or hostel?

this college is opened for business purpose only… they ask for money at the name of placement. there are many colleges in india and even they are newly opened bt they are also providing placements bt not this shit college, its shame to be the student of this college now.pls dont come in this college anymore in future.

How good is the des law college . I will apply for the 5 year course this year. Secondly how good is the hostel there reply ASAP pls

AnonymousLLB 21 Jun 2014, 12:27

I know this question was asked for the first time more than two years ago and my reply might not be too useful to the person who first asked the said question but after reading all the posts I could not stop myself.

Firstly what is up with all the negativity and hatred?

I passed out of the D.E.S N.F.L.C college this year, and I cannot say am too pleased with a lot of things about my alma mater. But at the same time, its a fairly new college compared to ILS and GLC. During my 5 years in pune i lived with students from ILS and Symbi, and they had several complaints about their college as well.

I have had issues too but its pertinent to note that running an institution is not an easy task.

Someone in an earlier post said that there were zero placements in 2011. I can personally assure you that this is not true. In comparison to the National law Schools and the more elite traditional law schools, the placements i would say is not good. But, my seniors have been placed at Naik and Naik, Mahindra, and Mercedes and a few have joined LPOs or chambers of senior advocates.

Secondly, with regard to the faculty. It is not true that the faculty is terrible. Every college has a set of brilliant and not so brilliant faculty members. There are several permanent professors who are brilliant and also the college entertains visiting faculty who are extremely good with their subjects and are approachable.

I agree to the fact that the facilities in college are not too great, but we do have an auditorium, although the amphitheatre is used for bigger occasions to be able to accomodate a larger crowd. we have a canteen ( for those who are more keen about food) and we also have sufficient classrooms to accomodate the students and teachers for the purpose for which they join college. Although i would not suggest living in the college hostels, it isnt very pleasant and appealing. But i know of several Male Students who have spent their 5 years of college life in the hostel and were pretty happy with it too.

The college, i wouldnt say, is the best that there is. Honestly, it can get better. A lot better. But constant criticism and use of vulgar language will not help.

I may have constantly cribbed about my college during my 5 years there, but i have acquired a lot of knowledge, experience, friends and most importantly i ve come out a much much better and stronger person. That is probably the reason why I still have some amount of decency to have respect for an educational institution, irrespective of how good or bad it is.
