A good student is bound to do well wherever he/she goes. The University is just a platform for you but, the rest depends on you. One cannot expect a pay package of 20 lacs per annum as soon as one get into a National Law University. He has to work hard for that as well otherwise, he will end up nowhere at the end of 5 years.

The biggest advantage NLUs have got is “PLACEMENTS”. Now… if you do law from a non-NLU, you wont get any placements and the rest will be the same if you keep interning and going for moots.

However, it is quite possible that you can get placed off campus if you CV is good and even that’s worth.. But, you ll have to work hard for yourselves..

Try writing CLAT next year… this time with more concentration! You might change your life!!

May I know the source of your knowledge? You make unchartered claims that non-NLU students do not get job offers then, why do you think ILS, GLC and Symbi have consistently been ranked amongst the best?

may be they just paid the magazines …

How a student (reserved) of 45% marks and another student (general) of 90% marks can cope in same study.

I agree with ‘srini’. A good student can do well anywhere.

The fact about Symbi and ILS is that the students do get placed (But not all). But, with Nirma, it is hard to say about that unless atleast a few batches pass out.

All that I would recommend ‘rushab’ is try for CLAT next year, there is nothing to get scared about. CLAT is 50% Luck and 50% Hard work. But if CLAT is ruled out (whatever the reason maybe) then stick to your college and work hard. Your marks matter first, then do your internships during every single holidays and do not waste them and do them religiously..

@‘ABCD’: Do you expect a person who has got 45% Marks to get through CLAT even if it is reserved quota? Irrespective of all that NLUs make you work and can turn ‘dull’ students (as they are not) onto bright ones as that is what makes a good institution! Why would the NLUs then be so famous if they could not produce excellent students out of the poor neglected ones?

Disclaimer to ABCD’s reply: I am joining a NLU this year. Thus, I may be wrong (please correct me), but this is my concept of a good institution apart from all the regular placements, extra and co curricular, etc…

I should’ve been a little more cautious. I just said “Non-NLU”s coz he was asking about NLUs. and Symbi, Amity, GLC, DU, UPES etc.. are among the highly ranked colleges of the country. :) .. I was pointing towards Nirma Uni. :)

Hi to all.. I see this topic very important for all the non-nlu students.Me being a non-nlu,was scared that i didnt crack CLAT(Though i got very close rankings).But after doing some research on the oppurtunities which are open for me after i graduate,i was convinced that going into a NLU is NOT EVERYTHING in life.I dont consider myself to be less than any NLU graduate(i didnt crack clat coz i was unaware of its importance in the field of law and didnt really study that well).

First of all dont blame yourself for not getting in NLUs.Dont worry about the placements,you have wide avenues outside it.make yourself busy with internships,moots,and other kind of activities that will interest you and make your CV rich.Think of doing further studies from an reputed university here or abroad(what am working on),i suggest you not to waste an year by taking clat again,but to think about some competative examinations which you could work on in future…Nearly 17000 people take CLAT and only about 1000 get in.Do you think all the other people will be failures in there life..?thats not at all true(can quote thousands of eg).

placement in a law firm may be important but NOT THE END.there is somuch one can do.you just have to GO and GET IT…

awsummmm i must say…really well said…i think datzzz really really an apt n correct thinking guys…placements via clat colleges isnt everything..if ur in a gud ranking in ane of d college u study den u can get placed anewhere…For eg:there arent ane placementss till yet in fergusson law college(sice itzz new-just 2 batches passed out)..but still if 1 studies hard n remainss on top throghout then getting into a law firm or LPOs isnt going to b an uphill task…a college SHOULD/MUST always be recognized/dealt by d studentss which studies in it and not d weird india today ranking where colleges lyk amity law school are sumtym placed at 9th…10th..or even 8th…meanss at d same level as ILS or GLC? huhhh…completely weirdo stuffs…

Frankly speaking, very few institutions offer you facilities like the NLUs. But, focus on your CGPA and your internships. Try your best to get research papers published in good journals and moot as much as you can. I agree with legally sagacious on everything else :D.

Dont worry, if you work hard enough and prove your mettle, you can make it…whichever college you are from. :)
