The Tis Hazari lawyer mob which allegedly assaulted a woman lawyer and her two north eastern clients is facing protests from hundreds of north eastern students and activists, reported the TOI.
Yesterday the protesters met the Bar Council of India’s (BCI) members to demand that the mob lawyers’ licenses be revoked, and presented a memorandum on the issue to them. The BCI promised action within a month.
Women lawyers' collectives, women's rights groups, and members of Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union (JNUSU), Students Federation of India (SFI), All India Students Association (AISA) among others joined the protest, holding placards and shouting slogans such as 'Tis Hazari lawyers shame shame' and 'racism down down', according to the paper.
A delegation of women lawyers and lawyers from the Northeastern states - senior advocates Indira Jaising and Meenakshi Arora, advocates Maneesha Dhir, Paul Roy Paske and the two women lady lawyers involved - met the Delhi High Court Chief Justice on Monday with their complaint against the incident, asserting that the incident amounts to contempt of court, reported the Express.
