The bail hearing of Reliance Industries in-house counsel Janhavi Gadkar, who is accused of driven while drunk and killing two men, was adjourned in the Kurla metropolitan magistrate’s court yesterday to 25 June amidst arguments between counsel.
Advocate Dimple Shah, representing Gadkar, had argued that they needed access to the treatment records Gadkar had received in hospital for a fractured hand to ascertain whether she had received the correct medical care, reported Mid Day. Her bail application would rely on the medical report, Shah told the court.
Public prosecutor Prahlad Mahajan told the defence to argue for bail immediately, rather than asking for another adjournment.
The Mumbai Mirror reported that after examination in prison by an orthopaedic surgeon on 15 June, where she complained of pain in “upper left abdomen, left hand, rib region and drowsiness”, Gadkar was taken to JJ Hospital on 17 June, where she was diagnosed with a fractured wrist without normal chest X-Ray and ECG results.
Mahajan said that the defence should file a written application asking for adjournment, and that the medical care she had received was sufficient.

I really doubt if she's as rich as most of us believe her to be.

But she is certainly not as wealthy as Salman Khan, the Nandas, Harish Salve, Ambani etc. She does not appear wealthy enough to manipulate the system easily, especially when more powerful interests might want to deflect attention away from the CFO aspect. Her mother was a BEST employee and is now an advisor to the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation.
She probably does not have crores to spare lying in her bank account or black money stashed somewhere, or property investments all over.
Gadkar should be careful with who she selects as a lawyer too. Too me it looks she is not getting the best legal defence and her ability to pay lawyer fees is not the reason.
This position was supposed to be the group's first "real" lawyer, a more professional transition from the old-timey guy who, according to Reliance and BP HR, is loyal but not really fit for modern commerce(something BP has advised the company about much of the group's upper echelons.)
The incumbent lawyer successfully downgraded the newbie's slot, and she probably damaged the whole modernization effort by turning out to be a booze-fueled killer (She had booze, and has certainly killed, Kian. The question is culpability, not her actions.)
She hardly had an academic or professional background equal to the task in the first place. BP's HR effort to advise Reliance on upgrading its upper echelon could be quite a disaster if Gadkar is on par with the rest of the hires. The clueless, pompous Brit BP sent from Houston HR for the legal hiring process should be chastened...but probably isn't. He's that kind of guy, and BP is that kind of company. And so is Reliance.
Bail is no biggie. She'll probably go home in a month at most even without Jethmalani & co.
Bigger issue is to ensure she gets a conviction with a long sentence.
