GNLU Gandhinagar has cleared the exam applications of two detained students yesterday, minutes after /Legally India/ reported yesterday that the students were in detention limbo due to administrative inaction for weeks.
Until yesterday, the two students stood to lose a year due to alleged administrative inaction following a retroactive rule change. The students were detained in the third year of BALLB for the second consecutive year in August 2016, despite the existence of a university regulation at the time they had failed their exam enabling them to potentially be promoted this year. However, the rules were changed in February 2016 that retakes would only be allowed after two instead one year of detention.
GNLU’s academic council had allegedly been sitting on their application to take the repeat exam since July. We reported on the inaction yesterday evening after having requested a comment from GNLU director Bimal Patel yesterday morning.
Less than a hour after publication of the story, the students received the following message from the registrar:
[…] As approved by the Academic Council and in view of the amendment in the regulation 27 (b) (vi), you are being offered a repeat exam of 100 marks in the relevant papers. The schedule of this repeat exam is available on the university website. […]
It is understood that the exam will be held between 15 and 18 September, according to GNLU’s website.

Professor Patel is the best VC in India. Sir has made world-class improvement to infra and faculty because he is a world-class person. Sir was eminent jurist at the Hague and have two PhD: one from world-famous Lieden University and one from Seedling School, Jaipur under great Professor VS Mani. No VC can boast such qualification.
Writing on the wall: PROFESSOR PATEL STAND TALL.
We are with you Sir!

Personally, good job Kian and Prachi. You guys are often a great help in covering stories that really needs the "help" of the Fourth Estate. I feel really happy to see such journalism. Counting on you guys to keep up the good work.
Haha hahaha haha. Do we have Baba Sehgal in the house?
Before speaking for the community at large, you should understand that there is a reason people have a difference of opinion. And that each individual only wants the university to progress and improve.
Once you develop this understanding you'll recognise that most people raise their voices to see improvements and this is possible through a meaningful, consistent and proper dialogue. When the possibility of that is shut down and doesn't exist, people then resort to expressing their annoyance through other means.
The University's alumni association, is not run by the alumni. College committees aren't run by the students independently. There is no student union. These are fundamental flaws that need correction and the students need to be empowered to be able to take and make decisions affecting them and their lives at the university.
We have been saying these things for years but I think the recognition needs to come from the top. The University should stop viewing everyone who speaks out and demands answers as truant and instead should really step up and embrace open processes.
Take true spirit
In regard to this specific incident, the affected have been trying to get a solution from the admin since June. Both the examination department members and the registrar of academic affairs cited the rule change which was unknownst to them until that point. For perspective, all rules framed and amended by the admin of GNLU is done by them in a dark cave in secrecy while on peyote and is notified by the ICT department that pays more attention to busting students watching porn rather than making sure that the official website works properly and is updated.
Until a few days ago the affected students had pretty much accepted as fate that they had lost another year to the arbitrariness of the gnlu admin. So unless Jesse Custer (Preacher reference) himself spoke to the admin, the promptness of the admin can only be attributed to them wanting to maintain their reputation (what reputation lol). Hence, bravo and thanks to legally india for saving the day.
I don't think they will ever refuse to report story of unfair administration at any lawschool. They are pretty helpful when the cause is just.
