First hike in 4 years: SC raises law clerkship stipend by 20% to Rs 30,000

The Supreme Court has increase the monthly stipend it pays to its law clerks / research assistants from Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000, with a hike to Rs 32,000 for clerks who stay for longer than a year.

The stipend was last hiked to Rs 25,000 in 2010, as reported by Legally India at the time.

The notice dated 27 October, via Bar & Bench, stated:

the Chief Justice of India has been pleased to enhance, with effect from 1st October, 2014, the amount of monthly stipend payable to the Law Clerk-cum-Research Assistants from Rs.25,000/- to Rs.30,000/- with the further direction that the Law Clerk-cum-Research Assistants whose period of assignment is extended beyond the normal assignment session of one year shall, on completion of the said period, be paid a monthly stipend at the rate of Rs.32,000/-.
