BCI wakes up, to pick HC judge 'at the earliest' to conduct inquiry into thug lawyers, says chairman Mishra

MK Mishra: Wants inquiry to fix bar thugs

The Bar Council of India (BCI) would conduct an inquiry into yesterday’s alleged assaults on journalists and others by lawyers outside the Patiala House district court.

"BCI has taken the incident seriously and has decided to conduct an inquiry headed by a former High Court judge,” BCI Chairman Manan Kumar Mishra told PTI

He said the BCI has decided to convene an emergency meeting at the earliest to finalise on the judge to probe the violence.

“We will take necessary action after receiving the report from the enquiry panel,” he added.

reported the PTI .

Other than the BCI’s fiercely resisted attempt to disqualify 15 Tamil Nadu lawyers having allegedly indulged in violence, disciplinary proceedings by the state bar councils or the Bar Council of India have mostly been toothless affairs.

There has been no progress for instance in the suo motu petitions by the BCI and the Delhi bar council against ML Sharma and AP Singh, who represented the Delhi gang rapists and made controversial statements.
