The Allahabad high court yesterday constituted a committee to deal with “unfair treatment of women counsels” and “complaints of eve teasing and molestation” of women working in the court, reported PTI.
The HC’s registrar will preside over the committee which will have five “elder” committee members of the Oudh Bar Association and one officer chosen by the registrar to receive complaints from female court staff. Additional Advocate General Bulbul Godiyal is the committee’s lady member.
The committee will follow the Vishaka guidelines. Justices Devi Prasad and Ashok Pal Singh of the Lucknow bench of the HC passed the order while hearing advocate Ranjana Agnihotri in a writ petition.
“This arrangement shall be purely as an interim measure and shall be subject to final order passed by the court in the writ petition,” ordered the bench posting the matter to 12 December for the next hearing.
The petition was filed after an “incident” occurred in the HC’s campus recently and the court’s women advocates found no remedial measures to address the situation.
