Over August 2011 the Supreme Court did not quite manage to match it’s impressive July figures, when it managed to dispose of 9,342 cases – 1,300 more cases than came in that month.

Over the last month the SC saw significantly fewer incoming cases – 7,099 – of which it managed to clear a total of 7,069 including 165 cases that may have been cleared in previous months but were just now recorded in the books.

The apex court also managed to wrap up 71 cases that have been pending for more than one year.

With three fresh and energetic new judges having been inducted on Tuesday taking the total bench strength to 29, there could be hope for September’s or October’s figures to decrease. However, the large number of public holidays and the ongoing Vodafone case could be soaking up judicial and advocates’ time and attentions.
