Senior advocate Harish Salve was celebrated and “presented a memento of appreciation” by the Society of Indian Law Firms (Silf) at a dinner earlier this evening, for having received the Padma Bhushan.

Salve commented in a press release: “I feel very proud but also humbled by this award by the Society of Indian Law Firms. The judiciary has over the six plus decades grown into a powerful institution of constitutional governance. The bar is an integral part of the Court and any recognition of service by a lawyer is a tribute to this great institution which gives each one- irrespective of caste, creed or colour- the chance to rise to their potential and serve the cause of development of the law.”

Silf president Lalit Bhasin said in the press release: “It is a moment of great pride and honour for the legal community. The variety and nature of litigation Mr. Salve has been involved in, holds him in a different league all together. His honesty and dedication have not only been widely appreciated but have had considerable influence on some of the most important policy decisions impacting the country.

“Not only has he been instrumental in voicing opinions in the field of corporate law but also on social evils that face our society. The new generation has a lot to learn from this pragmatic personality and we thank him for him being such an integral part of our legal society.”

SILF trying to suck up to Salve since he is opposed to their position on foreign law firms and is now also acting in the Supreme Court?

Copy that. Interesting to note SILF represents mostly the corp law firms and has little direct and routine engagement with litigation, of which Salve is unmatched till date and Padma award was on account of that mostly. Yet they go out of the way. I have not come across SILF facilitating achievements of its own member firms' lawyers. Big Guns of SILF look desperate. SILF putting up a show life (N-1)ilf.

Couldn't they have got some more people to be touching the trophy at the same time? Not respectful enough to the great Salviour.

Where's Trilegal, S&R, TTA? Just because they share equity, they feel they don't have to share in the lurve?

Tsk tsk.

I see. Which firm does he represent. Btw how is Mr. Parekh such a big person in SILF when he doesn't even belong to any firm (Sr. Advo cannot be a partner in a firm).
