Supreme Court: Takes case seriously

The Supreme Court has set up a three-judge committee to probe the allegation that a retired Supreme Court judge sexually harassed a law student intern in late 2012.

Journalist Nikhil Kanekal, who is currently in the Supreme Court, tweeted on @nkanekal: “Supreme Court sets up a 3-judge committee to probe #internharassment case. Justices RM Lodha, HL Dattu and Ranjana Prakash Desai.”

He added that Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sathasivam said that the case was “lingering on my mind since 10am”. The PTI on @PTI_News tweeted that the CJI said that the SC was taking steps and in cases of sexual harassment, they could not take it lightly.

@PTI_News added that the CJI said that “the committee will go into the whole affair and find out the facts and prepare the report… As the head of the institution, I am also concerned about the allegation and anxious whether the statement is true or not”.

@Spread_Law, a Twitter handle of TV journalist Sumit Nagpal, added that attorney general Goolam Vahanvati had mentioned the matter before the CJI.

Legally India had first interviewed the former NUJS Kolkata student yesterday about how she and other students had been allegedly sexually harassed by a retired Supreme Court judge in December 2012. She had posted a blog about coming to terms with her experience on 6 November.

Since I am part of United Nations, International court of Justice is under us.. lets see what Indian Judiciary (if at all its credible)does to this accused.. who has molested many but only one spoke.. to tell the world, Now everyone knows who is accused and who is Victim..

Now lets see what this committee does?
Will there be new guidelines? like only males to male judges

Mr. Lewis, I don't think the ICJ is not "under" the UN and, even if it is, what will the ICJ or the UN do about this? They have better things to do like prevent human rights abuses.

Anyway, this comment from a LI story, at http://www.legallyindia.com/201311144114/Bar-Bench-Litigation/sc-intern-sex-harassment-another-interns-social-media-account, is relevant:

The Three Judge Panel enquiring into the molestation charges should summon Abhishek Manu Singhvi and record his views. Also several Karnataka High Court judges who had sex in a hotel with female district judges and who we're exonerated by an enquiry committe of a well known SC. Judge should also be consulted. It would be easier too exonerate the molesting judge.[/i]

@Oracle,

Thats the sad part, Is CJI or any S court Judge above law of the land? if the answer is "No" Then he/she is accountable

Judges investigate Judges. Bureaucrats investigate Bureaucrats. Politicians investigate Politicians. Journos investigate Journos. All ridiculous and absurd. Chief Justice has no business to investigate ex SC Judge. Let police investigate.

Why don't the media/ SC/ CJI name the suspected judge here? Why can't media find the suspect's name, out of [...] names( to be fair to innocent two)?
