Senior advocate JP Cama called for a mandamus to bulldoze the process of judicial appointments and prevent judicial vacancy of nearly 45% at the Supreme Court, which is expected in the next 11 months.

SCBA president Vikas Singh on Sunday evening has met and sided with Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dipak Misra, chastising the four next-senior-most judges for holding an “ill-planned” press conference that said “nothing substantial”.

The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) elections may be postponed to January, out of fairness to the SC advocates whose names were removed without proper notice from the SCBA voter list, if the election committee agrees to the request of presidential candidate Adish Aggarwala.

The Chief Justice of India (CJI) TS Thakur’s cricket team – the CJI XI – won in its face-off against the Supreme Court Bar Association’s (SCBA) team, by 35 runs at the Feroz Shah Kotla Delhi cricket stadium yesterday, reported the Times of India.

The Bombay high court’s justice RV Ghughe, batting 53 runs, was the top-scorer among the judges of the various high courts and the Supreme Court who had come together in the CJI’s XI in their annual cricket match with members of the bar part of the SCBA XI

The CJI XI made 195 runs in 20 overs, while the SCBA XI made 160. The CJI XI had won the toss and chose to bat first.

SCBA vice president Ajit Kumar Sinha told TOI that the purpose of the annual match is to “reduce the tensions between the bar and the bench and to have fun together”.

Senior counsel Dushyant Dave is now officially Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) president again, after his short-lived resignation in mid-February was held by the executive committee to have been void.

Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) secretary Gaurav Bhatia rubbished a news report alleging he was removed today from the post of additional advocate general (AAG) of Uttar Pradesh, saying that he had filed his request to be relieved more than a month back.

The final results of the election to the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) show that it was a very closely contested election, and for some posts, the sizable votes secured by some non-serious candidates tilted the result in favour of the successful candidate.
