HSB Partners Chennai partner Varun Sriram has joined J Sagar Associates (JSA) in Chennai, reported Bar & Bench.

Sriram had been at HSB since graduating from Symbiosis Law School in 2006, followed by two two-year stints at Economic Laws Practice (ELP) and ALMT Legal before returning to HSB in 2012, becoming partner there in February 2014.

JSA opened in Chennai in 2014 by merging with Vichar Partners.

Amarchand Mangaldas and K&L Gates advised US-based Par Pharmaceuticals and its wholly-owned Indian subsidiary Par Formulations on its acquisition of Chennai-based Ethics Biolabs, which was advised by HSB Partners.

Amarchand Delhi partners Amit Kumar and Arvind Sharma, principal associate designate Janani Sekhar and senior associate Ananda Malhotra acted for Par Pharmaceuticals.

HSB partners TK Bhaskar and Varun Sriram with associate Anantha Krishnan Iyer acted for Ethics Biolabs and its selling promoters. Ethics conducts “bioavailability, bioequivalence, pharmacokinetic and clinical end point studies for pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies”, started an Amarchand press release. The value of the deal, which closed on 14 January, was confidential.

HSB Partners advised US firm Bayada in buying a 26 per cent stake in Chennai’s India Home Health Care (IHHC), which was advised by Chennai law firm VNS Legal.

HSB Partners partner TK Bhaskar, principal associate Varun Sriram and associates Aishwarya Krishnamurthy and Sahana Chandrika acted for Bayada which expects to earn $1bn (Rs 6,300 crore) in revenue next year, reported the Economic Times.

VNS Legal founder VN Shiva Shankar and senior associate Rakesh Cherukuri acted for IHHC which operates in Chennai and Bangalore.
