'Like flogging dead horse to life': SC rejects inquiry into when 'lawyers' attacked Kanhaiya Kumar in 2016

A sealed cover report by Patiala House had been submitted to the court blaming police lapses. Suffice it to say, no bar council disciplinary or other actions had been taken against the alleged assaulting lawyers.

Plea for SIT probe into attack on Kanhaiya in court dismissed

The Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed a plea by advocate Kamini Jaiswal for a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into attacks on former Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student leader Kanhaiya Kumar at Patiala House Courts complex in February 2016.

Rejecting the prayer, a Bench led by Justice Ranjan Gogoi said the petition was akin to “flogging a dead horse to life”.

Mr. Kumar was attacked by a mob in lawyers’ clothes at the Patiala House Courts complex when he was brought there for hearing in a sedition case on both February 15 and 17, 2016.
