The Law Programme, BA., LLB (Hons.) Offered by the VIT Law School

VIT University, founded by the educationist Dr. G. Viswanathan in the year 1984, maintains high academic standards. It excels in research too and strives to be on par with the best in the world.

VIT Chennai was started in 2010 and is developing to be the right place for Gen Y in this digital era. VIT Law School, the progeny of VIT University aims to impart quality legal education to nourish the young minds with knowledge of law, teach them the nuances of the legal profession and equip them to the nitty gritty of the profession.

VIT law school believes in continuous and active learning simultaneously with practical training. Our motto is SUI GENERIS SINE DUBIO which connotes “unique, without a doubt”. Studying law in VIT is a unique experience as there is a blend of all features of quality education.

The under graduate law programme, BA., LLB (Hons.) offered at VIT Chennai is in all sense unique in nature. The BA., LLB (Hons.) is a 5 year integrated double degree Honours programme. Proper care has been given for the integration of the law courses with other closely related disciplines like political science, sociology, psychology and economics.

Apart from that, the programme is also appended with a distinctive honours content starting from the fourth year.

The Honours papers are grouped under a major head and the students can choose any one of the available groups. Along with the theory papers, students have University core and elective papers in interdisciplinary areas and different languages, which are productive for improving their language, soft skills and many other skills essential for building their professional competence.

The clinical side of the legal education cannot be sidelined. The programme is also giving utmost importance to the moot courts, mock trials, legal reasoning ability improvement and legal clinics. In sum, VIT Law School is offering a package to the law students for molding them as complete legal professionals.

The evaluation system in VIT also signifies a shift from the contemporary pattern wherein testing of the memory skills is predominant in various Law schools. Problem Based Learning has been embedded in the course and the evaluation of the student will also be on the above said lines. This induces them to analyse the various provision of the law, interpret the case laws and apply them to solve the question of law thereby preparing them for the different facets of the profession.

VIT Law School is equipped with modern facilities and has an excellent infrastructure which provides a conducive learning environment. The classrooms are equipped with resources which enable audio visual mode of teaching. Active learning takes place in the moot court hall and the law school has a modernized moot court hall which includes facilities for trial advocacy as well. The campus is Wi-Fi enabled and also provides excellent sports facilities for students.

Admission Procedure

Eligibility: Minimum of 60% (overall) in Senior Secondary School examination (+2) or equivalent. The candidate should have appeared in CLAT or LSAT exam.

Age limit: The candidate should not be above the age of 20 years as on 01/07/2014.

Application procedure:

  • Application can be obtained from VIT admissions office at Vellore & Chennai on payment of Rs. 600/- by cash (or) DD drawn in the name of VIT University payable at Vellore; (or)
  • Candidates can also apply online for details visit www.vit.ac.in

Selection process: Selection process will be on basis of merit. The students will be screened based on the marks they have obtained in Senior Secondary School examinations (+2) or equivalent. The candidates who are shortlisted shall be called for group discussion and an interview which shall be conducted by a Board constituted for the same.
