Exclusive: NLU Cuttack in Orissa and the National Law School and Judicial Academy Assam (NLS & JAA) Guwahati are set to join the Common Law Admissions Test (CLAT) from next year.
An official at the CLAT office at NUJS Kolkata, which ran the 2011 CLAT, confirmed to Legally India that the two colleges would be very likely to be part of the 2012 CLAT, although the official decision would only be confirmed once NLU Jodhpur takes over as CLAT convenor from October.
The decision is understood to have been taken at a CLAT meeting last Wednesday.
In December 2010 NLU Cuttack’s vice chancellor said that the Orissa law school’s executive council “decided to go alone as our test is better”, while Legally India reported in June 2011 that NLS & JAA Guwahati in Assam had postponed and amended its bespoke admission test.
NLU Cuttack and NLS & JAA Guwahati spokespersons were not reachable for comment at the time of going to press.
If the two schools join the CLAT, this would take the official list of colleges supporting the admissions test to at least 13.
