The 2012 Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) university allotment list, which ranks NLIU Bhopal ahead of NUJS Kolkata according to Legally India analysis, has been disputed by several students, with one claiming on Facebook that the convenors have confirmed a new list would be published within days.
A number of students claimed online and in interview with Legally India that they had not been allotted their preference of law college, despite meeting the minimum mark.
One student said on the Facebook group of CLAT mentoring website Clagyan: “[The CLAT helpline] said to me that they are most probably publishing new list by 31st or in 2-3 days.” But another candidate on Facebook said that “jodhpur people are saying that list is final”.
Authoritative sources at the CLAT convening college NLU Jodhpur were not available to comment on the accuracy of the list at the time of going to press.
One CLAT taker, Osho Donnie Ashok, scored rank 427 and told Legally India that while this year’s cut-off mark should have guaranteed him an admission in at least his third preference – GNLU Gandhinagar, he was instead allotted a seat in NUSRL Ranchi which was his tenth preference.
His second preference was NLU Jodhpur which was allotted to a candidate sitting 201 ranks below him.
The cut-off marks for NLU Jodhpur were 134 out of 200 but a candidate who listed the law school as his second preference and scored around 140 marks was allotted HNLU Raipur, which is understood to have been his seventh preference.
Another person close to a CLAT training forum said he knew of at least 30 to 40 cases where the allotment was not in accordance with ranks and preferences.
Temporary rankings
According to Legally India’s analysis of the initially published university allotment list for this year, which has now been unpublished from the NLU Jodhpur website while the official CLAT homepage remains inaccessible, NLIU Bhopal trumped NUJS Kolkata in applicants’ preferences, while HNLU Raipur outranked GNLU Gandhinagar in the law school preferences of CLAT takers this year.
Continuing last year’s analysis, Legally India compiled a “Super 30” score for each law college based on the average rank of the top 30 students allotted to each college, in order to account for the different intake sizes of colleges.
NLSIU Bangalore continued to occupy the top spot since last year, while Nalsar Hyderabad, NLU Jodhpur and RMLNLU Lucknow also stood ground at the second, fifth and eighth place, respectively.
According to yesterday’s published list, students ranked 11 and 35 opted for Nalsar and rank 20 for NUJS. Four students who could have been admitted within Nalsar’s cut-off – rank 66, 78, 89 and 101 - opted for NLIU.

Thanks for your comments.
Allow me to explain. Outrank is mentioned in the context of
"NLIU outranks NUJS in CLAT preferences", which does not refer to any other ranking criteria or quality.
"Possibly wrong" is referring to the current confusion that prevails among Clat-licants (sic).
"Sitting" is a tad colloquial, agreed, but I'd argue it is fine to say that one person in a ranking "sits" several places below someone else?
In any case, we've taken your feedback on board and will aim to tighten our editorial process.
Best wishes,
Kian
Haha, this dude's bubble has been busted with the new list out! Congrats on the next bunch of ape-men at NLIU Bhopal!! Jai Hind!
Rank holders' preferences are proof enough.
And the probability of anything being wrong also comes with the complementary probability of the same thing being absolutely right.
NUJS has a much better faculty and slightly better placements while NALSAR has better infrastructure.
Between NLIU Bhopal and NUJS, there is no comparison.
Currently, NLIU Bhopal should ideally stand at 6th PLACE behind NLSIU, NUJS, NALSAR, NLUJ and GNLU.
Do see NLIU Bhopal's recruitments here: bit.ly/laB3Ys. Top recruitments are this: Khaitan (6), Amarchand (3), Trilegal (1), AZB (1). This shows how little trust the law firms have over NLIU Bhopal.
On the other hand, look at NUJS' stellar recruitment figures. Amarchand (10), Luthra (9), Trilegal (5), AZB (3), Bharucha (3), JSA (2), Foreign Law Firms (4).
NLIU Bhopal's reservation for MP students means that the crowd is less diverse and less competent. Also, Bhopal as a city has little to offer compared to Calcutta, which really is the intellectual and cultural capital of India.
Dear all, believe nothing of what you hear and believe only half of what you see.
Why? Is not the comment above showing the truth? Or you just do not have much facts to rely upon.
Suuuuure.
Amongst the 25,000 law aspirants who took CLAT, very few took time to research on the 'true' law school rankings.
It seems, they went by order of law schools as they occurred in the CLAT BROCHURE (which was based on the year of formation of law schools).
Or maybe, these preferences are really wrong. I pray they are.
This is unacceptable, I fear for the careers of these kids: NLIU Bhopal, a rank 6 college, becomes rank 3. HNLU, a rank 9 college, becomes rank 6.
HNLU would rank behind NLS, NUJS, NALSAR, NLIU, NLUJ, GNLU, RMLNLU, NLUO.
The placement scene at HNLU is bleak, pathetic. No law firms turned up. Please see: bit.ly/LPafQJ
Most other colleges take only generals and still don't place all of them.
nujs is a wondergul college, much ahead of colleges like nliu bhopal.
nujs, in my opinion, is above nalsar because of the faculty therein.
"wondergul", isn't it?
Please give me an example of the individuals the "drove" consists of? So far, after Professor Singh has left NUJS, not a single faculty member has resigned.
So, now placement of each college should be considered only for those who belong to "GENERAL" category?
Are you out of your mind?
The General Category usually gives a good indication of the student quality. The more number of the general seats there are, the better will be the student quality. NLIU has a smaller percentage of quality students with only 33 GC students, though I must mention that the MP General students are also of a good standard (only a couple of marks below All India General).
So, you can expect the placements to be any better than they are. Firms don't just dole out placements cos its an NLU. So yes, greater the reservation, lower the placement. It makes sense.
I'm really interested to know which NLU takes "only generals" as you said. There's a court order in place to ensure that reservations are there in every NLU.
1. They did not set the question paper according to the prescribes syllabus;
2. The CLAT website is now selling office furniture !!
3. They have messed up the choices filled by the candidates.
4. The aspirants who get in NLU should surely what to expect from this Law School !!
All the Best !!
"The Law School". So, do not misguide anyone.
who do u think is not dishonest..
?
the misappropriation of money and fuding of the accounts is another testimony to the dishonesty
Dafq? Please don't mislead and correct asap.! :/
NLUJA Assam was indeed founded in 2009, if we go by the establishing statute - the National Law School and Judicial Academy, Assam Act, 2009 (Assam Act No. XXV of 2009) - www.nluassam.ac.in/index.aspx
Even though, the law school's first academic session began only in August last year - www.nluassam.ac.in/news.aspx
We hope this addresses your concerns
Best wishes,
Prachi
It does require a lot of fortitude and restraint to respond to rude commenters like No.9 with the poise you show and the manner you do. Ignore those who just sit on a pedestal and revel in finding faults. That's what they will do for the rest of their lives without achieving anything meaningful.
You're doing commendable work. Keep going.
All the best to you, LI and its team.
Legal Dodo
Best wishes,
Prachi
I think Prachi meant from which year the first batch started. That was indeed 2000.
earlier NALSAR leaked the paper, and NLIU Bhopal set the most shady CLAT paper ever!
only NLS and NUJS have set reasonably okay papers.
What will happen next year???
To date, only NLIU has organised a CLAT which saw no petition at courts or any complaint at least officially. Don't forget NUJS set out question papers that already had correct answers marked. I don't think it can get any worse than that.
what wasn't wrong with it?
Provided you clear SET, I guess it’s much better than living in Assam/Raipur/Orissa.
So we all end up slogging after 5 years, why not make those 5 years “useful”.
Read the article carefully. It is stating facts. It's not defamation or bad mouthing if its true. NLIU over NUJS is something even a lot of NLIU students would not accept. I agree that you want LI to be unbiased but then reporting something based on facts and research can sometimes be in favour of one side. There is no need to take offence. Lets improve all NLUs and other law schools. We are no where near the best. Stop worrying about internal competition.
And yes, my comment might seem biased because I am from GNLU but well, we are all entitled to our opinion.
Cheers
P.S. Next time you call someone a retard, have the audacity to use your real name and do not hide behind an anon comment.
P.P.S. Your use of the word 'Period' is wrong.
PIL..since you alone will file it, won't be a PIL. Add to that, it will be thrashed for lack of contention.
LI, Student will explain in his next comment as to how should one "uplift" a college? Awareness program..better left uncommented.
Period?? Well that's understandable, dear student
Everyone is entitled to their opinions. True. But opinions do not go a long way. You need to take actions to back it up. Cite me one situation where LI or anyone associated with LI has taken any step to do something good to the colleges? I agree that people have the right to post their opinions, that is their Fundamental right, to put it more legally. But unwanted mudslinging is not something appreciable. For most of the part this college ranking is a flawed concept. No one takes any initiative to do a foolproof research on these colleges and then criticize them just to prove their own one's better. Mere mortal habit though, it is extremely immature. Wouldn't you agree? As you are a GNLU student you would know that a few years back, probably in 2009, people did not have a very good notion about your alma mater. It is brilliant the way you guys have brought it up. But how do you feel when someone says that the placements in GNLU is not because of the students effort but because of tie ups with AMSS and tremendous Government support? Does not sound too merry to my ears at least. Similarly when someone writes something negative about my college which in reality is not the scenario, the feeling becomes quite mutual. :-)
As far as my identity is concerned, I am not camouflaging it, I am a student and that is my identity. However, I would agree that the usage of 'period' was certainly wrong. I at least have the guts to do so. I would rather suggest you something. Be open to ideas but do not let it mislead you.
Thanks!
LI is a news website. It is not their duty to encourage law schools. If they do it, its good. their duty is to give us news. Hard facts and their opinion on it. That's it.
Guts to use the word period? O.o
Open to new ideas but don't let them mislead. Okay. Thanks!
Fact: NLIU only takes in 33 General Candidate Students every year
Fact: NLIU places around 40 students every year.
Fact: Top institutions like Trilegal, Khaitan, Amarchand, LKS and ICICI visit and recruit from NLIU every year.
It really can't get much better. I concede that the because of there are only 33 general category students, the overall quality of students may be slightly lower, but that doesn't make the institution bad. Also, thats more a political issue, and not academic, so lets no blame the institution and its students for the high reservation. NLIU is still doing better than many institutions, arguable even NUJS (though personally I think NUJS are ahead).
Now, no clarification whatsoever is being offered to these test takers which tells a further sorry state of the affairs of CLAT- committee, convener et al.
Had it been a Pre-medical, engineering or a management exam the story would have been different. Welcome to the world of law, the waters here is murkier and you have to get your hands dirty to catch the elusive fish (for instance the preceding comments show how a story of a possible goof up became a 'whose law school is the best' brawl). Alfred'd say burn the forest down like he did for his Burmese bandit.
This is regarding first few paragraphs of your article. You have mentioned two students who gave CLAT as your sources for new list from Jodhpur. How much is their information credible is not clear and you publish such things disturbing those who are not happy with the current list. You tried contacting NlU Jodhpur but you couldn't and kindly understand that your articles should not create confusion.
A word for legallyindia, though your articles are good but the articles related to law schools and students are getting worse. Quality is lacking here. I am a follower of legallyindia but now I'm loosing faith in u guys. No other indian legal website publish such rubbish. Sorry for the word.
Again I'm sure u'll not accept the fault within.
Best!
All there is to go on are the claims of several students, and silence from the convenors, so we tried to present it as clearly as possible.
Right now, judging by a lot of submissions we've received, there is a serious problem with the CLAT preferences and allocations, as also evidenced by the fact that the PDFs have been taken offline.
We are investigating and will update shortly.
Best wishes,
Kian
Sorry for being a prick but I have seen a lot of people making these errors. "Loosing" "Looser" contains single "o" as against Loose which means something which is not firm/tight. Had these been typos, I would not have blurted anything but these are blatant errors.
