It is 28 May 2011, 6pm; almost 22,000 to-be-lawyers will have been waiting for this moment. The Common Law Admissions Test (CLAT) website has crashed for now, probably under the weight of all of you pounding the server and refreshing at once. But once it’s up again share your results and your overall CLAT experience and preferences here. We will provide updates and analysis here in this post. Good luck to all and remember, you are more than just a score and can succeed wherever you go!
3am: Alas, although the clat.ac.in site is back up, it doesn’t appear as though we can do a detailed analysis of this year’s CLAT marks and preferences as we did last year because no full list of scores has been published… We will try and find out whether such information will be released and keep you updated…
Read the comments below this article for some more information – it appears that the full list will be published some time in the coming week. We will let you know.
Also read Mr Legal Poet’s blog post for another perspective on law school preferences.
Update 21:10 29 May: Results will be out tomorrow. Please read on here for more information.

NUJS sucks.
there are lot of things to be learnt to other Nlu from this incident. NALSAR conducted the exam in the Far better way but this, poor show NUJS
Also, as #4 has pointed out - whatever happened to the list system!
All in all, things could have been handled in a much better manner.
Few words about the LA section - the unexpected change was presumably done to reduce the role of coaching institutes, but, the new format will, in fact, give aspirants another reason to join a coaching institute for preparing for CLAT.
well speaking about refusing NUJS when i make it, i am going to do so bcaz i have scored 20 rank so u can say i am not opting/refusing/ not considering the NUJS in my options;) ya but i am confused between NLSIU & NALSAR can u help me out :P ya bt dnt tell me NUJS bcaz i have left out ;) i can even consider NLU-J or GNLU bt not NUJS because another quote sorry DUde " poot ke lakhan palane mein hi dikh jate hai" characterstics can be knwon in the early stages :O n so NUJS has proved by the way they handled the CLAT 2011 so no chance of joining it :)
bty goodluck with ur college/NUJS ;) :P
I feel bad for the novel IDIA effort. Because all its efforts have come to naught. The website crash is okay, we have 46000 eyeballs peering at it. But what disconcerts is the simple fact that a master rank 35 wouldn't make it to even NLUJ, a rank which would have certified you NLS for the last 3 years.
Sadly, I have lost hope in the counselling sessions also.
Congrats, NUJS. Superb show. :-|
chk ur facts once again bcaz thy might give u chance to party again :O
Get real, man.
PS- Wait people! And go, see some movie! Results might be delayed by 2 days, as it happens in every competitive exam in India. Chillax!
I guess we should wait for the complete marks-wise / rank-wise list of candidates to be uploaded (I hope NUJS does plan to release this) - whether a particular rank is good or bad will be determined by number of candidates sharing the rank.
hey bty NUJS lovers, ask them why thy havnt send t brochures who have downloaded t forms from website and paid 2700 Rs, now dnt say thy went out of stock and they ordered more :O
ya iska bhi paisa khaana hai :x last year each nlu shared 25 laks in clat fess, this is not me chk any NLU website and under RTI thy have published it, GNLU, NUl-j NLASAR balancesheet shows 25 Lakh CLAT share so this time NUJS how much r u gonna show???
I read that NLIU Bhopal had very poor placements: only 33 out of 50 students placed. Thats just 66% placements! What has happened to it? Is it a good option?
Also Bhopal had to depend on low paying LPOs like Pangea and CPA which took 4 and 2 students respectively?
Is NLIU Bhopal a safe option? For future career prospects?
might be of a big help!!
we got more scholarships (ROHDES, COMMONWEALTH & YOUNG INDIA)
more prestigious LLM's (HARVARD, OXFORD , YALE & NYU)
Better placement - 100% with average of more than 10 lakhs per annum........and mind u we dont call LPO's.
So u NUJS ppl please keep ur mouth Shut
We dont have students in HArvard, Yale as per my knowledge, and what if a student is not interested in studying abroad. We have. We had 15 student who opted to foreign degree courses including Oxford, NYU, King's college.
LPO -Just 2 students man! and what if these students have interested in LPO. They wont go there because NALSARite would say something. Doesnt matter what you think
To be very honest, there is not much different and that you too know!
*have interest
Too fast typing :P
So point Eulogizing ur Dumbness Duffer
BTW- NUJS' gets better placements.
If you get Rhodes scholars, we produce top Entrepreneurs!
And well; we get to enjoy our life. We don't sit in a village and let our lives rot!

AIR rank is nothing but difference in marks between the topper and other candidate
IN CLAT 2011 topper has scored 169. that is Master rank AIR 1. So if anybody scores 152 then his rank will be displayed AIR 17 that is 169-152= 17 !!!
So above 81 marks guy 81 88 AIR is ur marks difference 169-81= 88.
CLAT authorities should as soon as possible correct this blunder and publish a NORMAL pdf format result .
Its all wrong , certainly 169 score wud be comin RANK 0 if u trust the software ...
If what you have mentioned is true, it is ridiculous on part of NUJS. Innovation is a virtue only so long as it simplifies things. NUJS surely has given a whole new definition to the phrase 'unnecessary complexity'. Why the hell can't they just upload the list?
I have got an all india master rank of 85? Can somebody tell me whether i have cleared CLAT? If yes, which college will i get to be in?
Seriously what next?
You'll not get any good NLU. The real rank would be around 2000. I am assuming that there will be around 20 students on each rank!
NLS paper was quite decent and there was negative marking too ( Correct me if I am wrong on negative marking ), which provided NLSIU best students till 2007.
Same was with NALSAR and NUJS.
When CLAT started "LUCK FACTOR" started playing role because there was no negative marking and only OBJECTIVE paper. Earlier, there was subjective paper too which cannot be written unless you have studied.
As soon as LUCK FACTOR came into picture, many undeserving candidates got through NLSIU, NALSAR, NUJS and other NLUs because of which difference between several NLUs decreased.
There was a time when NLSIU had no comparison with any other Law college in India. But, as CLAT started the scenario has changed. NALSAR and NUJS have started providing tough competition to NLSIU. Why ? Because they have started getting many talented students who may have missed NLSIU because of "LUCK FACTOR". And, as the time would pass there would not be much difference between top 6-7 NLUs.
Who makes a college ? Students. When LUCK FACTOR comes into play, distribution starts varying.
NLU DELHI is smart enough that it conducts its own entrance test, and the reason which I mentioned above is the reason why NLU DELHI doesnt want to join CLAT. And, that is also the reason why NLU DELHI is performing extremely well.
Regards,
NLU Student
And well CLAT was taken by 3 times as many students as NLUD entrance. So who is getting better students?
And I have a Right to Speech too, hope you are well aware of it!
Critical Analysis of a situation!
Dude, Varun Bhagat decision advised NLUs to conduct a common entrance test and not made them bound to follow it. CLAt was started through a memorandum signed between these NLUs
Negative marking should be introduced in CLAT. Further i feel that law field is only for ppl who have genuine interest in it. The test should be purely to test the legal aptitude.. if u have it in u then welcome...
This is not an IIT-JEE, mathematical test where there is a precise, exact answer. 2+2 always makes 4.
This tests comprehension and analytical and critical reasoning. Words can be interpreted differently; sentences too.
Legal reasoning too is not exact. Even judges in courts dissent and give different reasonings.
So when a CLAT aspirant reads a question, thinks, tries to solve it, there is actually no 'exact' answer. There is a 'best' answer.
If there is negative marking, a student who is confused between 2 options won't mark it. CLAT wants him to try, go for it! Hope you get it, typed real quick.
Negative marking would make one think a lot before marking a guessed answer (Tukka), and many students get selected because of this.
They would be careful enough before marking it. It would surely enhance the quality of students.
Agree with you. If there is more than one answer to a question they may introduce differential / graded marking. But there is a need to introduce negative marking.
Your master rank is 68. Each rank would have at least 20 students on it. Your real rank would be around 1300. Sorry!
better luck next time
NUJS tried to do some good things this time:
1. make CLAT tough; test intelligence not memory (succeeded to some extent)
1. B- UNDERLINED ANSWERS
2. introduce centralised counseling (popular demand)
2. B- MASTER RANK!
B stands for blunders.
I believe instead of individual college conducting the exam, the CLAT committee as a whole should conduct the exam. Will lead to resource and human resource' sharing, lesser mistakes etc. for sure.
Also, for the anxious young minds, as per my information, a rank list will be put up on tuesday which should ease the pressure.
The following link might help.
www.clatgyan.com/the-window/master-rank-eej/
Till then, relax.
Cheers. :)
It's unfair to attribute general incompetence based on extrapolation from administrative deficiencies. To be fair to NUJS, (among other things) they definitely have one among the best faculty. That said, NUJS should take the rightful blame for unnecessarily complicating things.
CLAT this time round was tougher, lengthier and tested intelligence instead of memorization and patterns (which coaching institutions) teach you.
This was done to make sure that only the top notch intelligent people make it to CLAT. IDIA thus succeeded to a large extent!
Although I agree that IDIA is doing its bit to increase diversity as also with the point about tougher paper resulting in only the best being able to score well, I do not agree with other points mentioned by you.
1) CLAT tested intelligence and NOT memorization: given 50 marks (25%) devoted to Current Affairs, you can't claim this. It is more appropriate to state that CLAT tested intelligence in addition to memory.
2) Coaching institutes don't emphasise only on memorising. At least the coaching institute I joined helped me a lot in understanding how to solve Logical Reasoning and Legal Reasoning problems - both these clearly don't fall in the ambit of memorising.
I have deep respect for the IDIA and what it seeks to do. But your CLAT Committee has raped, (sorry, but needed) the IDIA's good work big time.
And then they defend. HAHAHAHAHA>
Sorry, Noojies. Big Mishtake your college did. Face it.
Haha. My college was the only place where a small cobra eats and relishes a big cobra. Beat that?
Mistakes happens.
Why did they not have grades during your class x boards?
1. Master rank: yeah, this is a goof up, but nothing doing irreparable harm. I've spoken to a couple of ppl involved with CLAT admin & the ranks with tie-breaking are probably going to come up pretty soon, Monday or Tuesday at the latest. Meanwhile, all one has to do is probably relax a bit.
2. Website Crash: an act of god if I've ever seen one. but it was up again in about 4 hours, and, as I have seen in many Facebook comments, it's not as if anybody's ranks got changed in the middle of that period!
3. Paper quality (standard): Inevitable. Students can't expect to be mollycoddled by the coaching centres forever! CLAT had even announced (I remember NUJS VC saying that it's gonna be tougher and more unpredictable)
4. Number of qs: Yes, they were too many to be properly answered. But, there is NO CUT OFF! It's not as if you can't score 80 and miss being in a law school even if nobody else has scored above!
5. Underlined qs: yeah, another goof up. But everybody got awarded marks on that! Those who answered correctly and those who didn't! So, that levels the playing field, somewhat, doesn't it?
6. Choice of Law School: All yours to choose folks :) I won't advertize one over the other. Take advice from people who have studied in them before and make your choice. None can stop you becoming a good lawyer or getting a job if you want to no matter where you pass out from :)
So, study at GLC or any local mumbai college, start interning right after your first semester, sign your articles in your third year. Period! you can't beat this route!! Good Luck :)
He's right. Us, at various NLU's ought to learn from GLC. Kya practical experience hai re baap! Solid ekdum!
Consider the Solicitor's exam if you end up there (even if u plan on doing lit). And don't worry about placements one bit, if you're reasonably decent with your work, you would have secured a job much before you graduate (be it a firm or a counsel). Cheers!
YOU MUST RETAKE THE CLAT.
AGAIN IN RESULT ANNOUNCEMENT YOU HAVE DONE THE SAME CHAOES?
MR SINGH,NOT ONLY YOU HAVE SPOILED THE REPUTATION OF NUJS,KOLKATA BUT ALSO THE STATE WEST BENGAL.
ADVICE:-IF ONE IS NOT HAVING THE ABILITY OF GOOD ADMINISTRATION THEN DON'T DO IT.
MR SINGH, WHO HAS GIVEN YOU THE AUTHORITY TO SPOIL THE LIFE OF INNOCENT STUDENT? PLEASE THINK.
in clat 2011 i got air 612....wat are my chances in the law universities....
About the goof with the results, I think we need to give NUJS the credit for atleast attempting to prepare a challenging paper which actually required actual application of logic, reasoning and time management skills. This cuts out the luck factor big-time, especially when one compares it to last years paper which I can only describe as random. The glitch with the underlined results was embarrassing and could have been avoided.
The delay with the display of the results is something that happens every year though the new system of master rank was doubly annoying. Its a huge amount of data and when more than 22,000 people try to access it at the same time its not surprising that it would crash. The same thing happened last year when I was able to view my results only by 12 a.m.
NUJS managed to improve the over-all quality of the paper despite the goof-ups. The most important part is that the paper ensures that the very best manage to get through to the top colleges and that, i think, is worth a few hours of nail-biting.
As to the best college option, one of my LST tutors (an NLS student) said that when you are living and studying with the 50 best minds of the country, you will see yourself growing and improving at a rate that is impossible with just quality infrastructure and faculty alone. After all, it is the students who push themselves to work harder and better. Going by this, it might be wise to choose according to the popular order of NLSIU, NALSAR, NUJS, NLUJ, and NLIU.
