NLU Jodhpur wins its first ever Mooting Premier League by a landslide, NLS Bangalore, NLU Delhi take runner-up spots

Two Indian teams scored huge points internationally to close the Mooting Premier League (MPL) 6 sponsored by Herbert Smith Freehills at the ELSA and Manfred Lachs Space Moot Asia Pacific round held in July.

IMLAM Moot 2015

The 16th Annual International Maritime Law Arbitration Moot 2015 held at Murdoch University from 3rd to 7th July 2015 witnessed participation of six Indian teams viz. Gujarat National Law University, Hidayatullah National Law University, NLSIU, NLIU, NLU Jodhpur and West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences.

NLSIU, NLIU and WBNUJS emerged as quarterfinalists at the tier 5 moot. However, they could not proceed to the advanced rounds and thus are ineligible for any points.

However, NLSIU emerged as the Runner up for the Best overall written memo award and received 3 MPL points for that. National law Institute University Bhopal won the Best Newcomer award in the IMLAM Moot.

ISRO Manfred Lachs Funding Rounds 2015

NLU Jodhpur emerged as winner while besting NLSIU at the ISRO Manfred Lachs India Funding Rounds 2015 held at NLSIU. The Best speaker award also went to NLU Jodhpur. However, there was no memorial award as it would be indicative of the memorial elimination results. NLU Delhi and NALSAR were the semi finalists at the tier 4 moot.

However, ISRO Manfred Lachs Funding Rounds will not be part of the Mooting Premier League from the next season.

These two competitions wrapped up the sixth season of the Mooting Premier League (MPL) and we’ve updated the final rankings now – apologies for the slight delay in publishing this.

Clarifications and adjustments before the final ranks

1. NLU Jodhpur were finalists, and not semi-finalists in ICC Trial. They finished second runners-up at the finals. However, the second runners up are not entitled to more than the points already awarded.

2. NALSAR was awarded the Best Overall Applicant award at Jessup 2015 and is entitled to 10 points for that. Also, Chinmayi Sharma (NALSAR) who was part of the winning team at Man Lachs Asia Pacific won the best speaker of finals award. In view of the past precedent, Nalsar is awarded 5 points for this.

The MPL 6 standing has accordingly been updated.

NLU Jodhpur takes it away

NLU Jodhpur has won the Herbert Smith Freehills-sponsored Mooting Premier League (MPL) season 6.

Previous winner for three years in a row, NLSIU is runner-up this season.

This is the first time that a university other than NLSIU or NALSAR has made it to the top spot.

NLU Delhi, finished in third place this season just in time owing to its performance at the Man Lachs World Rounds 2014 and Man Lachs Asia Pacific 2015.

NLU Jodhpur will take home Rs 30,000 from the prize pool sponsored by Herbert Smith Freehills after gaining a whopping 303 points this season. NLS has stood at the 2nd spot after lagging by 97 points.

Rs 20,000 out of the pool will go to NLSIU, with Rs 10,000 going to NLU Delhi in third. NLU Delhi scored 177 points and was 29 points behind the runners up NLSIU.

NLSIU had previously won the fifth, fourth and third season of the MPL after Nalsar Hyderabad won the inaugural and second MPL seasons.

If you’re the MCC at each winning college, please get in touch with us to arrange the transfer of prize funds. Many thanks to all teams and Herbert Smith Freehills for its generous sponsorship. MPL 7 will commence shortly and catch up with moots held so far. Please get in touch with us if you think a specific moot should be part of MPL 7 at .
