Wired: Soli vs political RTI ordinance | Khaitan Sr for foreign firms | Mag arrested for rape | More bong benchers for Delhi

Soli vs political RTI ordinance: Former Attorney General of India Soli Sorabjee said that the government’s proposal to bring an ordinance to keep political parties out of the purview of the Right to Information (RTI) Act, is an abuse of constitutional power. “Ordinance should be brought in only in extraordinary situation when a law needs to be brought about urgently. What is the urgency in this case? Why can’t they challenge the CIC order in High Court or the Supreme Court?” he said [IBN Live]

Khaitan Sr for foreign firms: Khaitan & Co senior partner Pradip ‘Pinto’ Khaitan says foreign law firms should be allowed in because they’d benefit Indian lawyer by adding to the talent pool and knowledge ecosystem [Hindu Businessline]

When Lalit Bhasin opposes foreign law firms you give it headline coverage, but when the head of one of India's most well-known firms supports liberalisation you do not give proper coverage. LI is just like other dishonest MSM outlets.

"Bong"! What's next? "Chinki" for people from north east (which, by the way, is a crime: http://www.firstpost.com/india/5-yrs-in-jail-for-calling-people-chinki-not-enough-335665.html)?

Of course, some will argue that such terms are used even by the people who such terms are used to refer to. Given that a contrary view is possible, food for thought.

We asked a Bengali before using the headline actually, for what little it's worth, and are generally under the impression that Bong (as opposed to many other regional terms) is an affectionate term that is happily used by Bengalis and that they don't mind being collectively referred to casually.

Any Bengalis here who can agree / disagree?

Our Wired headlines are also usually a little tongue in cheek, so not sure it is very inappropriate here.

Equating bong (or gujju or maru) with chinki (mostly used as a pejorative term) is a bit much, don't you think
