I feel you should give coverage to the outlook article on foreign law firms which also discusses the BCI's opposition to Harvard and Yale setting up campuses. It is rare for the issue to be featured in a major magazine. But I am shocked that Kian has not criticised BCI in the article and not come out in support of reforms. BCI is opposing Harvard in India while the Senior Advocates spend lakhs and end their children to study abroad. LI is becoming a stooge of BCI.

Thanks for your feedback.

The article is here, and quite a good read, for anyone who is interested - we will also feature it in today's Wired.

In response to your comment, first off, I was not really asked to give my opinion for the article, for obvious reasons. I don't think it should be my job, as a journalist, to support the entry of foreign law firms or oppose them. We try to objectively report what happens in the debate, and not to become a part of the debate.

Lobbying for reform should be the job of foreign law firms, Indian industry and Indian lawyers who want foreign law firms in, not of journalists.

If you are an Indian lawyer and want to support liberalisation, why don't you do something? Start an NGO or a Facebook group, and then you could publicly criticise the BCI and Outlook and LI would seek your opinion. Right now, this supposed majority that wants foreign lawyers in, is rather more silent on the issue than the opponents, apart from in anonymous surveys.

Well said, Kian. I agree that commenting or not on reforms is entirely your prerogative. It's preposterous for someone to assert that he/she is "shocked" that you have not criticised BCI. Almost sounds as if you were in breach of a solemn duty. You are far too polite in your replies. It's high time you asked such commenters to take shock therapy instead of posting such inane comments.
