Young advocate, bar exam campaigner Fatehpal Singh passes away

Colleagues, students, friends and family are mourning the tragic loss of recent Nalsar Hyderabad graduate and legal campaigner Fatehpal Singh who passed away on Friday following a road accident last week.

Singh (pictured) finished his schooling from Welham Boys School before graduating from Nalsar in 2010 when he began to practise in the Punjab & Haryana High Court and the Supreme Court.

He was a budding advocate, young, bright and passionate about his work showing exemplary courage of conviction while fighting for his and fellow graduates’ right to practice law, appearing often in the Punjab & Haryana High Court and the Supreme Court matters related to the controversial all India bar examination.

Singh was perhaps the only bar exam petitioner who stood his ground consistently when others faltered by making timely appearances before the courts and diligently following up on the case in his quest to get the exam annulled for being unconstitutional.

Singh evidently possessed strong legal acumen coupled with a sincere commitment and passion for his cases right from the bar exam challenges to helping in the defence of Swamy Nityannanda, belying the fact that he was a novice advocate with only months of court-room experience.

It is fair to say that the grit and determination he showed for causes will serve as a source for inspiration for others and he will always be remembered and missed by one and all.

Singh had suffered a road accident on 10 December and passed away one week later on 17 December. The funeral was held on Saturday 18 December.

Rest in peace.
