CNLU students protest first-year’s alleged sexual harassment by faculty

A CNLU student alleged that a faculty member had sexually harassed her; students and teachers responded with protests resulting in the suspension of classroom teaching between 11 am – 1 pm.

A source familiar with the alleged events said that the accused faculty member had made obscene remarks to the complainant, who was a girl in the first year at the law school. After the girl complained to the administration, students and other faculty members boycotted lectures today before lunch.

CNLU registrar SP Singh commented that “everything has been resolved” but he declined to comment further at the time of going to press.

NUJS Kolkata also recently faced an administrative staff member’s sexual harassment complaint against another staff member, which eventually turned into a criminal case after the law school delayed taking action.
