Ranbir Singh gets nod for second 5-year term as NLU Delhi VC

NLU Delhi vice chancellor (VC) Prof Ranbir Singh was yesterday re-appointed to head the law school as VC for a second term.

Delhi high court chief justice D Murugesan - NLU Delhi’s chancellor - renewed Singh’s tenure without needing to form a search committee to recommend names for the post of VC, under Section 26 of the NLU Delhi Act.

The re-appointment will be effective from 21 July 2013, one day after his first five-year term comes to an end.

Singh had resigned from Nalsar Hyderabad in 2008, before the end of his term as founder VC, to head NLU Delhi. Between 1996 and 1997, he was a professor at NLSIU Bangalore.

Singh, who obtained his BSc, LLB, LLM and PhD degrees from Kurukshetra University Haryana, also taught at that university until 1978 when he moved to Maharshi Dayanand University at Rohtak as part of the founding faculty and continued till 1998 in various capacities as professor, head, dean and proctor.

In 2012-13 academic year, Singh had hired 10 new faculty members for NLU Delhi, including six national law school alumni, and former NLSIU Bangalore vice chancellor Prof A Jayagovind, Legally India reported on Friday.

In Lucknow, RMLNLU yesterday found a new VC - former Delhi University faculty of law head and dean Prof Gurdip Singh - five months after the tenure of former VC Balraj Chauhan ended.
