Nuals scores record 32 (pre-Covid) jobs for RCC of 65, batch of 120 as lockdown begins causing some delays

Nuals sets new recruitment record (though not necessarily a sign of things to come)
Nuals sets new recruitment record (though not necessarily a sign of things to come)

The Nuals Kochi recruitment coordination committee (RCC) and the 2020-graduating students have secured and accepted 32 job offers, out of a total batch of 120 out of whom 65 participated in RCC activities.

This is the highest number of offers ever secured by a Nuals Kochi batch, said an RCC member, noting that last year 17 jobs had been secured through the placement cell and 5 to 6 via internships. “It is important to note that this is a record placement number in the history of this Institution,” the RCC explained in its statement. “No previous batches have secured the same.”

That said, this is not necessarily a green light for the wider market that things are going to be fine this year: the RCC member confirmed that the majority of this year’s had been obtained before the Covid-19 pandemic had hit its stride.

And recruitments are not quite over yet either. “Due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, the placement drive has suffered a halt and affected the rising number of recruitments,” said the RCC. “Places like Axis Bank, LKS, Tree of Life Associates (Bangalore) & Manilal Kher & Ambalal (Mumbai) have accepted our invitation but the process is temporarily delayed.”

Also, while all offers listed below had been formally confirmed and accepted, some were still in the process of receiving official offer letters, which had also been delayed due to the lockdown, according to an RCC member.

In terms of law firms, the current Nuals tally includes several bigger names such as Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas (1), Wadia Ghandy (3), Khaitan & Co (1) and J Sagar Associates (JSA) (1).

Out of all recruiters, the students had managed to get seven to participate in campus interviews this year: ICICI Bank, Federal Bank, Wadia Ghandy, EY, WNS Global, TLC Legal, and Veeksha LLP.

The other job offers were secured by students doing internships.

When asked about strategy followed in the recruitments this year, an RCC member said: “Every member of the placement cell was given a responsibility, which included designing brochures, verifying CVs, making PR calls and emails and handling logistics. This ensured that all members felt a sense of responsibilty and remained sincere towards their commitment of securing placements.

“As a result, we were able to reach out to more number of firms than usual because of the large number of participating members in the PR Committee.”

Besides the corporate world, two Nuals students also secured LLM admissions abroad, at the London School of Economics (LSE) and the University of Edinburgh.

The RCC’s core committee included Dhanya Prasad, Anuj Jain, Ajay Krishna, Gokul Ashok, BVN Sai Charan and Aishwarya Ajayan. Faculty advisor was Dr Mini S Thampi.
