The prestigious Rhodes scholarship this year was won by NLSIU Bangalore graduate Raag Yadav and NUJS Kolkata alumnus Amba Kak, alongside three non-lawyers.
Yadav was also part of the winning team in the world rounds of the Jessup International moot 2013 while Kak was chosen to be a Google policy fellow in 2012.
Yadav said that he would be enrolling in the BCL programme at Oxford but declined to comment further on his plans. Kak was not reachable for comment at the time of going to press.
The two were notified of the award on Saturday alongside a computer science student, a McKinsey & Co professional with a background in economics, and an archaeology student.
The Rhodes scholarship entitles recipients to study a subject of their choice at Oxford University for at least one year.
The last Rhodesian produced by NUJS was Shibani Ghosh in 2006, as NLSIU has fielded Rhodes scholars nearly every year out of the last 18 years.
Last year, NLSIU student Anupama Kumar and Nalsar Hyderabad student Arushi Garg made it past the selections for the scholarship. In 2011 NLSIU student Vrinda Bhandari was the only Indian law student to win the Rhodes.
