NLSIU Bangalore registrar Prof OV Nandimath has resigned from his position but will remain as part of faculty, according to a number of press reports (see below).
Students had publicly blamed him for delaying the appointment of new vice-chancellor (VC) Prof Sudhir Krishnaswamy last week.
Nandimath had told us earlier this month, however, that he had not been to blame and was just a “messenger” and that delays had been caused by delays in the system.
Nandimath did not respond to a message seeking comment today.
After the controversy over the delay in the appointment of the new Vice Chancellor of National Law School of India University (NLSIU), the Registrar of the university on Saturday submitted his resignation from his administrative post.
However, his appointment to the position of a registrar in 2013 was controversial even then, with the NLSIU alumni contesting his appointment, because his selection had been made outside established procedure and because other, more senior candidates had been passed over, according to a letter by NLSIU alumnus, Vikram Raghavan in July 2013...
According to senior students at NLSIU, this entailed him submitting incomplete documents to the Chief Justice of India, and introducing a clause asking for confirmation of receipt of the appointment letter from members of the EC, which was no part of the protocol...
A copy of his email, which was given to DH, showed him asking to be recused from the responsibilities of the appointment process. “This will probably instil confidence in the student body,” he had written, in an email dated, September 16, 2019. However, this offer was rejected by Professor Ramesh.

Someone tell BCI that it better burnish its own credentials first before lecturing us. And that too from its current leadership. There was a time (just like the acche din that were or will come) when BCI was headed by respected jurists etc. Now the less said, the better. If the MCI could be disbanded what about BCI?

Nandi wanted to brazen this out. I am surprised what happened to taking Sudhir to court for the irregular Professorial appointment at NUJS; conflict-of-interest involving Pro MP Singh etc. Is that litigation happening or not?
At this point I would rather be Nandi roaming streets elsewhere. But as eloquently expressed "those who can't, teach"
Without a good registrar, he will be handicapped in doing what he wants to.
I am not sure if Sarasu has additionally been made the Ford Chair Professor or is she administering the Chair? We know she is working on a Ford Foundation project. But the Chair and project are different. Can someone throw better light on this? If Sarasu is formally the Ford Chair Prof, she will likely have little incentive to become Registrar. Sudhir would also prefer it that way.
RS and other young academics with Associate Prof rank may get tapped. I have heard that Registrar is a Professorial rank position. But nothing explicitly rules out an Associate Professor having the required number of years under his/her belt.
Now that Nandi is gone, the rest of the [...] should be cleared. Possible places where Nandi may go are CNLU Patna, NLU Assam and like where the VCs are unlikely to take or get extensions.
Why do I get a feeling Nandi will stay on and plot trouble.
As for [...] one would hope [...] to at least not angle for registrar after all the failed plotting [...]
