National Law Institute University (NLIU) Bhopal students have launched the first issue of their law journal called NLIU Law Review with the objective of increasing the academic standards and enhancing skillsets of students.
The aim of the review was to invite articles, essays, case notes and comments from a wide range of legal sub-disciplines and a variety of topics of legal and contemporary relevance from law universities in India and abroad.
The first issue of the law review started being planned only in February 2010 when a core body of 15 student members constituted themselves into a committee.
Thereafter, more students from the first, second and third years joined the management, editorial, printing and publishing board for coordinating various aspects of the journal such as the review of the articles, layout and design.
NLIU Law Review committee member Vinesh Chandel said that there would be three editions published per year, including one special issue.
He added: "When I joined law school, I realised that if you moot you do everything and felt that there was a lot of focus just on mooting and the other factors contributing towards the growth of a student were ignored.
"It is for this reason we thought of publishing this journal that would encourage students to improve their writing and research skills also."
The content for the issue of the law journal was generated from over 50 articles that were submitted by students and faculty members of various law colleges, after which they were reviewed on technical and main content merits.
The students were assisted by NLIU faculty member Dr Prof Ghayur Alam.

Another thing which NLIU guys could do is make sure that the journal is available free online (open). Make it open. Let everybody access it. Let them love the journal and love the articles and learn from them.
Congrats for the endeavour!
However I would caution you against three journals a year....Having been on the ed. board in law school I know what it takes to bring out one journal each year without compromising on quality let alone three!
Firstly we would like to thank all of you for the positive feedback. It's always good to hear words of encouragement when you're starting something new. :-)
Regarding the online version of the journal, the first edition will be made available once the second issue of the NLIU Law Review has come out. Details regarding any changes or developments relating to the same would be posted on our University's blog.
It's also great to know that those who have read the journal liked the articles and found them interesting to read. Yes indeed, three editions a year seems a herculean task. But we're sure that with these words of encouragment and our continued and consistent efforts we can achieve the same.
Once again, thank you all so much! Here's hoping that the word will spread and we continue to receive encouraging responses from more of you. Any other suggestions and comments are most welcome.
Regards,
Member, NLIU Law Review Committee
congrats Vinesh
