He formally announced his departure to HNLU students at 4pm earlier today and proceeded to answer their questions for an hour.
Jaswal (pictured) said that the reasons for his departure were entirely personal in order to be closer to his family, with his wife being a lecturer at Punjab University.
“I will continue to be associated with HNLU not as vice chancellor but as an elder member of the family,” he told Legally India today. “Here I am very happy. I am leaving this university in a short span of time not because of some bad reason - not at all. I addressed all the students and there’s not even an iota of wrong reasons that I am leaving. I love my students of HNLU, they are very dear to my heart and they have given me all love and affection.”
Jaswal added that he had taken a number of “reformative steps” in only one-and-a-half months at HNLU, although he could not complete some parts of his work. He changed the way the college administration worked by dividing the administration into different sections, and invited lecturers from outside, such as India’s first female IPS officer Kiran Bedi who gave a guest lecture on 19 January. He also nominated members to different unfilled statutory bodies of the universities through Supreme Court judge H. L. Dattu, who is to be the visitor of HNLU.
He also appointed Supreme Court judge H.L. Dattu as HNLU’s visitor, a post that had lain vacant and caused delays in appointing members to various statutory bodies that governed the university.
He noted that he also paved the way for students to organise the college’s South Asian environmental law conference to be held between 25 and 27 March, which law minister Veerappa Moily would attend and managed to initiated the editorial panel for the law student journal which had long been lying dormant.
Finally, Jaswal also worked on the infrastructure of the new campus, including instructing the builders to remove defects to buildings and constructing the main road to the college which had been left unfinished, he said.
Moving on
However, Jaswal acknowledged that some projects still remained unfinished that his successor would have to take up, such as adding more books and facilities to HNLU’s library.
“Immediately the priority is to have meetings of the statutory body, which have already been delayed,” he told Legally India. “Some part of the construction is yet not completed by the company to which the contract was given and I would like that part for be completed.”
Jaswal said HNLU should have a new vice chancellor in “not more than two months in any case” and even possibly within one month. While his joining date at RGNUL was not yet confirmed, he would definitely move within a month, he added.
Punjabi pastures new
At RGNUL the main challenge he would immediately have was also improving the functioning of the current “makeshift building arrangement” as the new campus was yet to come up.
“The [same] challenge which was in HNLU – that is appointment of the senior faculty members is also there,” he said. “I could not complete it here [at HNLU] because of the statutory meeting of the body was yet to take place. The difficulty I faced was because the nominations were pending that had not been made last year.”
“Jaswal Sir was the best thing which happened to the HNLU,” commented HNLU students bar association (SBA) vice president Mohit Singh. “Even in the short span of one-and-a-half months of his being here with us, we have already seen the difference. He is an institution builder and he has brought many significant changes for the betterment of this university. We are grateful to him for this and will always remember him.
“The university is deeply saddened by his leaving to RGNUL but we understand his difficulties and just hope that in the time to come we have a similar personality leading our way.”

Although the first priority of Mr. jaiswal was always RGNUL not HNLU because he applied to RGNUL first than to HNLU. He was selected for HNLU first, but he tried to get back to RGNUL, so he return here for personal reason.
Congratulations to all RGNUL brothers, hope you people will come out with tromatic experience with your previous VCs working and fly in the sky as a leading law school in India soon under the leadership of Prof. Jaiswal and hope the anarchy of deadly triangle combo will come to end in your univ and democracy prevail in positive manner.

Get Well Soon Gentleman??????????????
And still you dont know, than i feel sad for you and your college...........
Irony--- People like u are part of legal eduction........shameful
Reading you people is quite some entertainment. We used to think that with all these new NLUs coming up it would get difficult for us at the hallowed portals of the tier 1 law schools.I did not know much about the new law schools. I am now convinced that we have no threats. At least not in a decade.
Get well soon.
Damn - there isn’t a single comment of yours which is not riddled with grammatical errors and typos. If you don’t know how to dance, don’t accuse the stage to be broken. Since I am not allowed to abuse on this forum, imagine that I am showering you with the choicest of abuses to you. RNGLU – tch tch
[We try not to publish things about family and personal matters, I think that's reasonable. I hope that makes sense. -Ed]
Lol! What are you going to do? Go on strike against RGNUL?! Grow up and more importantly, get a life. I would like to inform you, you incompetent, self declared grammar nazi, to take a nice look at what you've written.
Let us begin at the end, "... imagine that I am showering you with the choicest of abuses to you..."
Incorrect use of you. A standard 8, CBSE, student can write this correctly. Let me show you how it's going to look when written correctly. "... imagine that I am showering you with the choicest of abuses..." No 'to you' at the end. Or, "...imagine that I am showering the choicest of abuses on you.."
Moreover, you always shower 'on' something, not 'to' something. Plus, there isn't supposed to be a hyphen (don't you know what it is? Look it up on wikipedia) after damn.
Now that Mr./Ms. HNLU WARRIOR FAIL has been put in his/her place, I would like to wish the best of luck to RGNUL. You guys really need to get your act together. It's a shame if the students have to suffer for faculty politics, administrative incompetence, etc.
Best of luck.
We wont go on a strike against RGNUL, because the strike is not oriented towards any particular institution or person. It was the common consensus of the student body to save their alma mater.
Because we strike not for kicks, but for our rights and make sure that we get them. Which is why we are in a sprawling state of the art campus and lead comfortable lives here which help us to grow not just academically but also personally.
P.S: We are happy for RGNUL. We are deeply saddened but not broken. HNLU, will like always rise above all of this to emerge as a vibrant institution.
Excellent Statement........We are with you guys...
Best of Luck
Whatever the reason is for Prof. Jaswal to leave, it can happen to any institution.
The list of issues to be addressed in RGNUL as put up by one of your fellow students is quite a lot...and as we've seen the way Prof. Jaswal works, he'll resolve them gracefully.
There is no point building barriers between HNLU and RGNUL on the mere ground of estimating the exact reason as to why our VC is leaving or for that matter as to who has a better command over the language. We both have our own larger issues to tackle, let's try not being petty, and we all know we can deal with anything...Anything
Its better HNLU get new VC soon
