Breaking: HNLU Raipur fights to stop RGNUL poaching 3-month-old VC

HNLU Raipur’s students will try to convince vice chancellor professor Paramjit Singh Jaswal today to stay at the college, after he was appointed to join RGNUL Patiala as its new vice chancellor after less than three months into his new job at HNLU.

Jaswal is understood to have shared the news of his RGNUL appointment recently while visiting Nalsar Hyderabad faculty, from where the information appeared to have leaked to the students.

Jaswal had only joined HNLU in November 2010 as vice chancellor after a four-year long struggle by the students to improve the management of the college, and according to one HNLU student the college’s situation had already begun improving.

“He was great I should say,” said the student. “He was doing real good here, we had already seen the difference.”

A search committee headed by retired former Supreme Court judge SB Sinha recommended Jaswal’s name to RGNUL’s chancellor and the Haryana High Court who were responsible for the selection, reported Law et al. News yesterday.

It is understood that Sinha was a former executive committee member of HNLU but it is not yet known on campus whether Jaswal has taken an official decision on whether to accept the job, according to a source.

Jaswal would announce his decision on his return to Raipur today, said the campus source, and a number of HNLU students would try to convince Jaswal to stay for the good of the college.

Jaswal’s wife is understood to be lecturing at Punjab University, which is believed by HNLU students to be a possible motive for the potential move to Patiala. Jaswal could not be reached for comment by Legally India at the time of going to press.
