After rebuke, Guj HC manages to secure GNLU director Bimal Patel presence

Patel, summoned, turned up to Gujarat high court today
Patel, summoned, turned up to Gujarat high court today

GNLU Gandhinagar director Bimal Patel and registrar Dr Thomas Mathew appeared before the Gujarat high court today to comply with its 19 February order, following Patel's non-compliance with two previous orders of the high court.

As we had reported yesterday, the high court had chastised Patel in its order that "no one is above the law” and had asked him to appear in person before it at 11am today in the writ brought by GNLU's accounts officer Manoj Patel, against his allegedly improper termination.

The reason for the order of personal appearance was that Patel has asked the accounts officer to proceed on immediate leave with pay despite orders from the high court that he should allow the accounts officer to continue in his employment while the writ was pending.

According to a source present in court today, Patel and the registrar appeared for a few minutes today and informed the court that they had allowed the accounts officer to continue in his employment as directed by the high court.

The case would next be heard on 7 March.
