GNLU Gandhinagar, which has placed at least 13 fourth-year students with Amarchand, Trilegal and JSA to start in 2015, refused to divulge figures for its Day Zero recruitments which were completed on 11 April.
The law school’s faculty coordinator for recruitments Vallari Solanki told Legally India that it has been GNLU’s policy for the last few years to keep recruitment details confidential.
Amarchand Mangaldas made nine offers to the batch graduating in 2015, including two pre-placement offers (PPO), Trilegal made three and JSA made one, the firms confirmed to Legally India.
Khaitan & Co, which conducted Skype interviews for the batch, did not make any offers this year. Luthra & Luthra did not visit GNLU’s campus.
GNLU vice chancellor Bimal Patel has not responded to repeated calls and messages for comment since yesterday.
Solanki said that due to the college being closed for polls today, she could not approach the law school’s administration for any decision on whether it would confirm or disclose figures before tomorrow.
GNLU’s 2013 batch was an early-mover for Day Zero in 2012, raking up 16 offers by 12 April. The law school did not transparently disclose Day Zero and final recruitment figures last year too.
Fourth year recruitment efforts this year for 2015 graduates at Nalsar Hyderabad have yielded 29 confirmed jobs, 27 job offers at NUJS Kolkata, 10 confirmed jobs at NLU Delhi, 12 offers at NLU Jodhpur, and 33 jobs at NLSIU Bangalore – all those law schools voluntarily disclosed or confirmed the figures.
CNLU Patna has had a bleak final year recruitment season and no Day Zero, as students blamed the law school’s administration for the dismal placements.
Editor’s Note: We realise these figures may be incomplete. If anything is missing or inaccurate, please do let us know in the comments.

RMLNLU tried that model in Delhi and it failed. If the firm is interested, it will come down to the campus or conduct a skype interview. Otherwise there really isn't much you can do about it.
And FYI, the batch of 2011 saw AMSS taking a total of 18 students on day zero. That batch also saw students getting PPOs from Trilegal, JSA, LKS, Luthra and a couple of other firms. That was our best year.
NLIU Bhopal tried this too, few years back when firms stopped wanting to travel to the depths of M.P. to recruit students who were no better than ILS or Symby. They mooted an idea to have a placement office at Delhi but soon realised that the corporates and firms wer'nt fooled so easily by a change of scenery.
And lol "who were no better than ILS or Symbi" Great assessment bro . You are probably one of those who didnt have a CLAT rank decent enough to make it through here.
I fail to understand why Legally India has in this "news" article been bitterly opinionated about GNLU. Is it for any reason connected to the fact that no information was given to LI by any person of GNLU? Or personal bias? Or some historical tag that is attached to GNLU being "secretive"?
I expected LI to provide a more balanced "opinion" of such sensitive news matter.
I fail to understand, how can a zero day be regarded to be secretive? I dont see any law school apart from NLSIU probably who disclose their Day-Zero before hand. What obliges GNLU do that? All that GNLU has asked (according to the article above) is time to take a considered decision. Is that wrong? If LI was in a hurry to publish the news, then the negativity could have waited for an edit at a later date.
Speaking generally about no disclosure to the media: I hope that LI could be more open-minded. Most well rated institutions in other fields do not disclose recruitment details. GNLU could be taking a leaf out of that. Or still better, one could also assume that GNLU may not believe that recruitment is a criteria to determine the goodness of a law school at all. For GNLU, it is probably just a necessity to facilitate recruitments. They are not into the business of job selling. In general, they might not attach the significance that is generally attached to recruitments. Could that be the case? I only hope.
Compared to most other national law schools, there is and has been very little external transparency about what goes on at GNLU, both on the recruitment front and elsewhere. That should give some cause for concern and deserves being highlighted, as we've done, if only to give CLAT takers a fair view.
Based on our experience, we did not expect anything of value to come from waiting for GNLU for another day 'to take a considered decision' after the administration repeatedly refused to or procrastinated and we, somewhat pointlessly, collected the information from law firms.
Ps: Anyone know off the top of their head what the 2015 batch size is at GNLU? 160 or so?
To answer your question, if I can recollect my friend well, she said that the Batch consists of around 130 odd students in the Batch and while only about a half of them had opted to sit for placements.
Few correction: Ms. Valari Solanki is not "faculty coordinator", she is Head of Internship, Placement & Scholarship Division and ya batch strength is 160 which is already pointed out by someone.
quote name="kianganz"]In this case 'secretive' is not opinion but it's fact that's well explained in the main story. Secrecy has also become a bit of a trend at GNLU.

And whoever you are, what gives you the right to question the number of people being admitted to a particular university? Who are you?
@ Kian
Whoever you are and whatever you do, I don't give a Phuck. First of all GNLU is not a factory, its an institution and temple of learning and it is doing very well and all you useless people out there are bound to be jealous because you don't think beyond NLS, NALSAR and NUJS. You are envious because you cannot digest the fact that how come a a decade old Law School is doing so well.
Secondly, not just GNLU but other law schools were in news for bad reasons if you know what I mean and as far as I know, GNLU staff is hardworking and accommodating. To uplift the standard of education some measures were taken up by GNLU administration, some were good and some were bad.
So I request you to stop being vindictive because no one is perfect and we all have some sort of shortcomings and also this is a disrespect to all those who were and are part of GNLU, and they are doing the hard work. I know many people who have worked very hard and were focused throughout on their goal and because of that they are doing exceptionally well in various law firms and in Courts.
Again I request you all that sometimes its better to appreciate rather than cribbing and spreading malice. Why don't you go and visit GNLU and interact with the students out there, I am sure all your doubts would be cleared.
Last but not the least GNLU is my Alma Mater and I am bound to defend it come what may.
@Kian : please delete all the negative remarks about GNLU in such a time when placements are in full swing. We would be affected by such baseless negative publicity. Please remove the baseless comments on quality of students and administration.
I know critics called it a dumb movie.. but sometimes being dumb is being smart (I heard some one or some great person quote this).
We all know GNLU is a brilliant place to be. the radiance of the students can easily outshine some of the best in the Market. In this time of need we need to pull our act together and be smart.
Change is here!!
I think putting up an outstation placement center is a good idea.
Meanwhile, to all the future GNLU student and youth in general... here goes some of the wise words of Nature's Law that I picked up in my five years:
1. wrap it before you slap it..
2. Don't be silly, protect your Willie
3. When in doubt shroud you spout
4.Especially in December, gift wrap your member.
This is the problem of Indian Universities. They try to imitate and follow. Do something so that others follow you and associate their name with you. Don't try to THE HARVARD OF THE EAST rather become GNLU OF THE WEST. :)
GNLU is clearly over-dependent on Amarchand. If Amarchand doesn't recruit, the toppers of GNLU will get as bleak a result as colleges like RMLNLU.
Anyway, the rest of the 150 odd people will struggle to get jobs as has been the case in GNLU.
Also why do you care for the 150 others in GNLU. What you really need to care about is what will happen to you if you dont get the job!!!
Congratulations to those who did make it though.
Like one of my brothers pointed out.."East North West, we are better than the best.."
Though I flunked my test, I feel superior to the rest..
We think slow and talk faster,
Often we have been referred to as the Master of disaster..
May the force be with You!!
With Love from the Dark Side
If you're only looking for good old attention, try your rhymes elsewhere bub.
Bah! It's not even like the wordplay is any good. A dyslexic buffoon could probably do better, or not. Depends on who you really are.
Cheers!
I really enjoyed the poem and that post. Seems for you the apt phrase would be, "Grapes are sour"
do all job offers become secured jobs or are there further interviews
