GNLU Gandhinagar has notched up another in its tally of high court orders that direct its administration to reverse its actions, this time in the case of four final year students suspected of bursting firecrackers during a classroom lecture, as first reported by Ahmedabad Mirror.
The Gujarat high court has directed GNLU to allow the four students to appear for their end of semester exams after the students, suspected of the firecracker prank and suspended and debarred from exams without a hearing, had moved court against the law school.
We understand from our sources that after the crackers allegedly went off during a classroom lecture on Friday 20 April, GNLU informed the police after which around seven uniformed personnel visited campus.
Four students, who were the only ones found near the spot where the crackers had burst, were called out by the administration but without giving them a hearing they were sent a notice of their suspension at midnight that day.
They were summoned for a disciplinary probe after the afternoon of Monday, 23 April, but before setting up the probe GNLU had already debarred them from the end semester exam, thus allegedly denying them a fair opportunity to defend themselves, we understand further.
Since the exams were scheduled from Tuesday 24 April, the suspected students approached the high court, according to the Mirror.
Gujarat high court justice RM Chhaya heard their plea at his residence late on Monday night and passed the interim order directing GNLU to allow them to take their exams, however Chhaya did not stay GNLU’s order of suspension and also ordered that GNLU could not declare the results of the suspected students without the high court’s permission.
The next hearing in the case was yesterday.

It is said in another one that "Firecracker triggers stampede in Italy" after people mistake it for terrorist attack

It is keeping this in mind that police was called because safety of all is paramount. I am also giving exact quote of Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes from the Wikipedia: "The most stringent protection of free speech would not protect a man falsely shouting fire in a theater and causing a panic."
