Former Banaras Hindu University (BHU) Prof BC Nirmal has today joined NUSRL Ranchi as vice chancellor, almost five months after the last VC demitted office.

His predecessor Prof AK Koul’s term as NUSRL’s VC ended on 27 September and on the same day NUSRL chancellor chief justice Prakash C Tatia nominated an assistant professor at the law school Shweta Mohan as acting VC.

Nirmal had taught at the BHU’s law school, which was also his alma mater, since 1976. He became a professor at BHU in 1998, and was a member of the Indian Society For International Law’s governing body since 2000. In April last year he was elected as the vice chairperson of ISIL, as reported by the Times of India.

Nirmal is also an honorary professor at GNLU Gandhinagar. He was not reachable for comment at the time of going to press.
